Happy Unicorn Swap – What I Sent

My Happy Unicorn Swap partner got her package yesterday, so I can finally show it all off! I got my swap package earlier this week, and I was so excited to send this to my partner.

I always love sending embroidery floss for swaps, I have such a fun time picking out a color pallet. For this one, a rainbow just seemed necessary because you really can’t have unicorns without rainbows!

I wracked my brain for what to send as the “unicorn item.” The coordinator suggested sending something that was unique to your state or region and I just couldn’t pick anything. So instead I went to Mitsuwa, a Japanese grocery store, and picked up some random Japanese treats. They might not be unique to Illinois, but they are unicorn items in the US.

For the unicorn, I used the pattern from my Unicorn Success Club pattern. You can download a copy of it for free here.

I joined English paper pieced hexagons together into a large piece of fabric. I used a featherweight interfacing on the back to stabilize it before I stitched it. I’m not entirely sure this was necessary, but I wasn’t to be safe. I used water soluble cross stitch canvas to stitch it on.

I also included a unicorn necklace that I made using a mini embroidery hoop necklace from Dandelyne. For the embroidery I used the horse pattern from Teeny Tiny Menagerie that was in the latest issue of Hoop-La magazine and just added a horn. You can’t get the full effect from the photos, but I used Kreinik metallic threads so the whole thing is sparkly!

This was such a fun swap and I really loved putting together this package and I was thrilled with what I got!
