Sara from Radiant Home Studio is celebrating her 2nd birthday with a sale on all her awesome patterns and also a blog tour. I jumped at the chance to participate and immediately knew I wanted to make the Highland Avenue House pillow.
I immediately knew that I wanted to add patchwork to it because I am currently obsessed with it. And because I can’t follow directions, I made some changes to it. Instead of appliquéing the windows and door, I made them into pockets. I cut out the fabric pieces and a lining fabric and sewed them right sides together, leaving an opening to turn. Once I turned it I pressed it, top stitched an edge along the top, and then stitched the opening closed when I stitched the pocket onto the pillow.
I had planned on giving Evie this for Christmas but I just couldn’t wait. I had to see her reaction, she loved it. This thing is absolutely enormous and I love that about it. If you want a smaller version, Sara does have the mini Highland House pattern, but this one is just so fun!
This is a really fun pattern and can be customized so many different ways. I love the little door that Stephanie from Swoodson Says added. I thought this would also be a fun chance to fussy cut some cute fabrics so that different animals or other shapes were in each of the windows!
If you want to make your own, or any of Sara’s other patterns, you can get them for 20% off with the coupon code “birthdaycelebration”

What a fun modification! This is such a good idea for using scraps, and I’m sure the kids will love storing all of their treasures in the pockets. Thanks for joining the blog tour!
