For the first No Scrap Left Behind Challenge, the theme was to make any Small Project.
Last year on Instagram I committed to a “Pay It Forward” movement. Someone sent me a handmade gift and I had to find 5 people to send something to who would also keep the cycle going.
I’ve used the nanaCompany needle book tutorial before and it’s a really good tutorial and allows you to customize it.
I made a panel of tiny patchwork as the basis for the needle book. When I made my patchwork tutorial, I used 1.5″ squares to start off with, resulting in 1″ finished squares. For this, I started with 1″ squares so I ended up with really tiny .5″ squares.
I couldn’t make the entire thing from the scrap bins, I did need to cut up some of the bigger pieces. It could have been done entirely with scraps but the .5″ squares were a little overambitious on my part and I just didn’t have the patience to make it that much bigger.
I really love making these needle books, I always add a pocket inside which is great for slipping in a pair of scissors and keeping a couple Wonderclips nearby.
Did you make any scrap busting projects this month? We’d love to see what you made, add your link below.
We will be back later this month we another challenge, we hope you’ll play along!

Those tiny squares are adorable (and would probably drive me crazy to quilt).
