I was lucky enough to get a review copy of this book from Quirk Books and I fell in love. When I thought of pom-poms I thought of yarn balls, but this book goes way beyond that with a ton of great projects using a variety of materials.
The book starts off with projects separated into three categories – home, wear, and party. There’s a variety of projects, some are embellishments added to things, while others are more elaborate. I always think it’s great to have a book with a wide range of project difficulty. It can be intimidating to open a book that is full of large, in depth projects. It’s nice to have some smaller projects that I could finish quickly during naptime.
After the projects there is a whole section called “Pom-Pom 101” which covers everything you could possibly need to know about pom-poms. It expands far beyond what my idea of a pom-pom was, making them with everything from coffee filters to old t-shirts. And the book gives four different ways you can make pom-poms, each one ideal for different materials or applications.
One of the most fun parts is the section on different wrapping techniques to make patterns in your pom-poms like stripes or polka dots. This is a really well done instructional manual for so many different techniques of making pom-poms, the photos are bright and fun and the instructions are really clear and concise.
