A few weeks ago I had an idea for a necklace with tiny, fabric hexagons. I had made some English paper pieced .25" hexagons and they were absolutely adorable, but so light that I didn't think they would work as a necklace. I turned to Jennifer from 52 Lasers with a laser cutting request and she produced an awesome pendant. Then when she dropped off the hexie flower design, she also gave me another version that is a bar with 5 hexies. I shared the necklace photo on Instagram and it got a lot of love. You can purchase the pendants directly from Jennifer in her Etsy ... Read More
Sewing a Laser Cut Bag
All the way back in June, Jennifer from 52 Lasers did a post on laser cutting fabric. I made a little coffee cozy but put aside the pieces she cut for the Noodlehead 241 tote. This was a combination of being too busy at the time to make it, but I was also really nervous about the project. I was using nice Cotton + Steel fabric I got my from local quilt store and the pattern was daunting. For some reason this last weekend I was struck with some sudden bravery (or an attempt to procrastinate and avoid other projects I should have been working on) and I decided to ... Read More
Laser Cut Appliques
Weeks ago I talked with Jennifer from 52 Lasers about the possibility of making laser cut appliqués. I ironed some Heat'n Bond* onto a dark gray Kona cotton and dropped it off with her. And then I promptly forgot about it. She recently brought it up again and asked if I would want to make something with the appliqués she cut. Jennifer left me with a narwhal, a whale, a unicorn, and a cloud. I knew right away that I wanted to pair one of the whales with this mermaid fabric I got years ago from Joann's and have been holding onto. I've also been eying the Cosmos ... Read More
Virtual Busy Bag Swap – Sock Matching Game
I've done some busy bag exchanges in the past, but my ideas are always a bit limited because I have to make so many of them. So when Stephanie from Swoodson Says suggested a virtual busy bag exchange, I was really excited. I would just have to come up with an idea for a single busy bag, so I could put a lot of effort into making a super awesome one. And I might have gone a little overboard... What You Need: Clothespins Clothesline (I found one at the Dollar Tree. I tried to use thinner twine I had around but it wasn't thick enough for the clothespins to stay ... Read More
Gifts to Say Goodbye
Evie's best friend Amelia is moving to Seattle today. They have been friends practically since birth and seeing them play together is the sweetest. Evie constantly asks me if we'll be seeing Amelia when we go out. And while I'm really sad for Evie losing her friend, I'm sad for myself as well! Amelia's mom has become a good friend of mine and it works out so well that our girls love each other so much! Their friendship has been such a big part of Evie's life and I really wanted to make some special gifts for Amelia to remember Evie by. I knew I wanted to make a ... Read More
50 States Stitching Club by Wild Olive
Mollie from Wild Olive has another fantastic stitching club, this one is the 50 States! I swore to myself I was going to finish the spring stitching club before starting, but I just couldn't help myself! Every week is a different state and in the end I will have a quilt. I picked out my fabrics and I stitched up the first three states. On Saturday I went to breakfast with Mollie and I gave her a few state themed gifts. I had Jen from 52 Lasers cut this map thread holder and needleminder. I love how they turned out! I also saw these state cookies at Whole Foods ... Read More
Laser Cut Hexagon Pendants
I don't think it's any surprise that I've caught the hexagon bug. I've become an English paper piecing machine and I'm finding myself drawn to any and all hexagon patterns. Just check out this pouch, Moleskine, and duct tape that I got. Anyways, Jen from 52 Lasers made an assortment of hexagon pendant frames and I got to help her fill them! My first thought was obviously fabric. I'm a huge fan of making fabric hexagons, so I knew I wanted to make fabric hexagons to wear. I also wanted to cross stitch a design but that hasn't happened yet. But I did make a ... Read More
&Stitches Swap – What I Sent!
When I signed up for the &Stitches swap, I had no idea what I would do. The theme was "places" and I wasn't sure about doing a cross stitch of a specific location, I like to keep things more simple and stylized. I was thrilled to be paired up with Carina and she told me some places she likes, but none of them were really standing out to me. She had mentioned before that she was extremely interested in space and liked the alphabet I am working on. I decided that space counts for the theme and made a solar system pattern. I already have one pattern but I wanted to do ... Read More
