WIP Wednesday – A Tale of Two Blankets

I started a blanket for Evie when I was still pregnant with Mira. It's a starburst granny square one and I love it, but the idea of joining it and weaving in the ends was enough to make me hide it away for months. During that time I started a blanket for Mira, this one is a giant granny square. I purposefully chose a pattern that wouldn't require joining and would have a lot less ends to weave in at the end. One of my 2014 goals was to finish both blankets. I finally got my act together and started joining Evie's blanket. I decided to single crochet them together ... Read More

Book Review – Modern Baby Crochet

I came across Stacey Trock's book Modern Baby Crochet: Patterns for Decorating, Playing, and Snuggling right after Mira was born and I was immediately interested in checking it out. So I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to review it. Stacey is the designer behind Fresh Stitches, so while I was familiar with her amigarumi animals, I was really excited to see her take on baby crochet items. I was looking for patterns for baby items for Mira and I felt like I kept coming across the same things, Stacey's book offers a lot of fresh new alternatives. While the book ... Read More

Finish-Along

&Stitches is having a Finish-Along and it seems like a terrific way to start off the new year and get some old projects out of the way! I dug out some works in progress and I'm going to commit to finishing them! I started this Statue of Liberty as a Christmas gift but at the last minute started something new. I think it's going to look great when it's done, but I haven't loved stitching it. So it makes it really hard for me to reach for this project when I'm in the mood to stitch something. I started this waste canvas cross stitch monogram and I kind of abandoned it. ... Read More

Review – My Crochet Doll

I was really excited to review My Crochet Doll by Isabelle Kessedjian, the adorable cover was enough to catch my eye. This book serves one purpose, to give you a fantastic doll pattern and then all the tools you need to personalize her and make her your own. In the introduction Isabelle talks about her childhood and the quest to find the doll that was especially for her. This book provides everyone with the opportunity to do that, and does a great job of it too. The book feels so personal, I can tell that Isabelle put a lot of herself into making it. The beginning ... Read More

Michaels – Create Squares, Warm Lives

I was heading back to the embroidery floss area in my local Michaels when this sign caught my eye. There is a bin with 7 inch x 9 inch rectangles that people have made for Warm Up America.Next week after Christmas is over, I plan on grabbing some yarn and getting to work making some squares. Last year I got The Knitting Book and I've pinned a ton of different crochet stitches I've wanted to play around with. This seems like a perfect opportunity to experiment and learn some new knit and crochet stitches while also helping out a great cause! Has anyone made any ... Read More

I Started Another Blanket

Despite the fact that I have a pile of 121 sunburst granny squares that need to be joined for Evie's blanket, I started a new one. I have been really wanting to work with yarn, but sewing together squares was not what I had in mind. I was at Hobby Lobby and their I Love This Cotton was on sale so I grabbed a skein of this lovely light grey. I had these other colors left over from Evie's blanket and another project I never actually did. I have seen a ton of different blankets I love and have considered making, but I went simple and started a giant granny square ... Read More
