I was trying to come up with what this month's free pattern should be when Stephanie from Swoodson Says suggested I make a pattern to correspond with National Quilting Month. Apparently the third Saturday in March is National Quilting Day, this year it's March 21. This month's first Friday really snuck up on me! Suddenly it's a new year and I need to make a pattern within the next day! But I have one for you, and I hope it'll be a good motivation for you this year! I set a lot of goals in regards to what I plan on creating this year, but really none of that is really important. It doesn't matter if I finish 20 cross stitches or 2. All that really matters is that I'm taking the time every day to make something, anything. Free Pattern Friday – New York City Skyline

I created this pattern for a Christmas gift so I can't show off what I did with it yet. However, it worked out really well and I thought some of you might have use for a NYC skyline cross stitch pattern. It's very simple and you could customize it and use any colors you'd like. You also don't need to stitch the entire space, I just did the outline and it worked out really well! The finished piece is less than 9" wide and 4" tall when done on 14ct Aida. So this is going to be an early Free Pattern Friday, and it's a different kind of pattern! Instead of a cross stitch pattern, I made my first ever English paper piecing pattern. When Josh and I got married I folded 1,000 paper cranes and used them as decorations at our reception. Ever since then, origami cranes have had a special place in my heart. I've been wanting to make a crane cross stitch pattern for a long time and finally sat down and did it! And it's my gift to you. Why not stitch 1,000?
