I was trying to come up with what this month's free pattern should be when Stephanie from Swoodson Says suggested I make a pattern to correspond with National Quilting Month. Apparently the third Saturday in March is National Quilting Day, this year it's March 21. Free Cross Stitch Pattern – Mario 1 Up Mushroom

Normally I wouldn't share a project from a swap before I've sent it out, but this month for CraftingCon the theme is Mario and I wanted to share this pattern with you! I made this for the Nerds Craft It Better swap and I love how it turned out. I used a Dandelyne hoop necklace and stitched the mushroom using water soluble canvas. (If you're interested in trying out water soluble canvas, I wrote up a tutorial over at &stitches!) The mushroom is tiny, it's only about 1.25" x 1.25" when stitched on 14ct Aida. This month's first Friday really snuck up on me! Suddenly it's a new year and I need to make a pattern within the next day! But I have one for you, and I hope it'll be a good motivation for you this year! I set a lot of goals in regards to what I plan on creating this year, but really none of that is really important. It doesn't matter if I finish 20 cross stitches or 2. All that really matters is that I'm taking the time every day to make something, anything. Every month Mollie from Wild Olive picks an animal and releases a free embroidery pattern and other projects focused on that animal. This month is a beluga whale and she asked me to create a cross stitch pattern! You can head over to Wild Olive to download a PDF of the baby beluga cross stitch. Last year I participated in the Christmas link up that Laura at Bugs and Fishes organized. There were so many fantastic projects and so many different ones!
