Water Soluble Canvas – Cross Stitched Hexagon

A while back I tried out waste canvas and then found out that water soluble canvas exists. I went out and got some right away but it sat dormant for months until I finally unearthed it over the weekend.

I’m doing yet another hexagon project, (are you guys tired of hexagons yet? I’m not!) and I thought a cross stitched hexagon would be a fun addition.

I did my old standby of stitching up a little heart. Water soluble canvas is a thin plastic sheet with holes for cross stitching. This allows you to cross stitch on any fabric that is washable. I’ve been curious to try wool felt but in nervous about the water on it.
The water soluble canvas was so easy to use, especially because the heart is so small. I was able to just hold the canvas down and start stitching, but for a larger project you would want to stitch the canvas in place so it doesn’t move.

Dissolving the canvas was really easy, you just put it into some hot, soapy water and let it sit. It only takes about 10 minutes and it all just disappears. It’s amazing!
It was a lot easier than waste canvas and I love how it turned out.

I didn’t get the heart perfectly centered onto the hexagon, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. I will be making more to mix into projects.

I kept mine around for a year before I finally decided! Just try it out on something little, maybe you’ll be inspired to do a bigger project after! 🙂
