My first Best Birthday Ever Swap partner had her birthday this week and I had a ton of fun putting together this package! The swap package had to include something handmade, craft supplies, and then a little gift that was bought. For the craft supplies my partner said she loved Japanese import fabrics, so I sent her a package of charm squares with the fabrics I got from Bunny’s Designs Fabric Supply. She also said she was obsessed with her planner, pink, and glitter so I sent some fun washi tape and other glittery items.
I figured if I was going to go pink, I might as well go REALLY pink. Months ago I got some lace zippers after seeing Carina make a pouch with one, but I have been too scared to actually try using one. I finally took the plunge and made this pink patchwork pouch with a pink lace zipper. Due to a cutting error on my part, the pouch ended up a weird size, but I think it’s still a good project bag.
Jen from 52Lasers had given me some buttons to play around with and one was a unicorn. Because of how the holes were, it’s more like a tag, but I thought it was a cute little detail to add.
I also made a pink needle book using the tutorial from nanaCompany, it’s the same pattern I used for the budgie needle book I sent in a swap package last month. I made a gradient going from light pink to red, which I absolutely love how it turned out.
On the back I used a scrap of fabric that came with my Fabric Supply order and a Made by Unicorns label from Sublime Stitching. I’ve had these labels for almost a year but haven’t brought myself to use any yet, but I really need to stop hoarding supplies and just use them! Unfortunately, I didn’t take into account how the seams would cut off the label, but I still think it’s cute.
For the bought item, I had Jen laser cut a unicorn necklace pendant. She doesn’t have them in her shop but I’m sure if you sent her a message asking nicely, she would make you one too! She does however have some other unicorn goodies.
I’m already hard at work on my next package because my second partner has a July birthday. I’ve been really enjoying using swaps to push my sewing boundaries and get myself to try new projects!

I will probably sign up for another swap once I get past the July hump but I ended up planning swaps poorly and I have three things to send out within a few weeks!

Sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t go too overboard on a single theme, but when that theme is pink and unicorns I just can’t resist!

Sometimes I worry about my sewing skills when making stuff like this but then I realize that perfection isn’t the point! It’s all about putting thought and magic into it!
