I had started playing around with cross stitching on different surfaces but then got sidetracked working on other things. One of the things I’ve wanted to do was to cross stitch on wire office supplies, so I got these pencil holders from IKEA. Yesterday I finally grabbed some yarn and did some stitching.
I had never stitched with yarn before, I think it would have been a little nicer to work with it if it were a little thinner. It took me a little bit to figure out where to cross stitch but it worked out well. I didn’t even count the spaces yet the pattern worked out perfectly from edge to edge. The second color was a little trickier since I used such a thick yarn, the spaces were a little tight. The pencil holder was a 2 pack so I am already planning what to do with the second one. I will definitely use a thinner yarn and I think I’ll plan it out a little more and get more fancy with the pattern. But for now, I call this a successful experiment.

Great idea! There is a lot of potential possibilities with this! You can make geometrical patterns, pictures, a lot!! Thanks for sharing this 🙂

Thanks!
I definitely want to play around with this more, I just wanted to do something small that I could test it on. I would love to fill an entire side with a picture.
