In January, Stephanie from Modern Sewciety launched Modern Sewcialites. The main component is a block of the month, but there’s also a recipe, podcasts, a private Facebook community, and more. In addition to the BOM, each month’s pattern also has the information to scale the block up to make it into it’s own quilt.
Art Gallery Fabrics released their Capsule collections and I was given the chance to choose one to make this quilt. I picked the Raise the Volume collection as well as a rainbow of their Elements fabrics to use.
Now, I’ve always been a small block maker. For a long time I wouldn’t buy anything larger than 1/8 yard cuts of fabric, so all of my blocks had to contain 4″ pieces or smaller. I’ve since graduated to 1/4 yard cuts, but still tend to work small. So it was a very nice change to only need to make 9 huge blocks to have an entire quilt!
I sent my quilt top off to Stephanie to quilt, and Hobb’s provided the batting. I decided to try something new and got Tuscany silk batting. I had no idea what to expect, but it’s really soft and lightweight. Sulky provided thread and I really love their 50wt Cotton+Steel threads. The colors are so fun and I always love using cotton thread for quilting.
This is actually a gift and I’m really sad to give it away. Guess I’ll just have to make another!
