I wanted to make sure to get this review posted before Christmas in case anyone needs a last minute gift idea. I have been singing this game’s praises, I know of at least three lucky children who will be opening their own copy of Robot Turtles on Christmas morning because I won’t shut up about it.
Robot Turtles is the most backed board game in Kickstarter history, it raised over $630,000. It boasts that it introduces basic coding concepts to preschoolers as young as 3. The basic gameplay is simple and easy to pick up with additional elements that can be incorporated to increase the difficulty.
The game is a really fun way for kids to learn about cause and effect and basic logic. When we play it, I can see Evie working out the moves in her head and figuring out how she needs to go. Kids issue commands in a logical order to achieve a goal.
The game isn’t intended to be competitive and can have multiple winners. But Evie told me “You know what’s the really fun part? When I win!”
Eventually you add obstacles and ways to overcome these obstacles. In it’s most advanced state the child maps out all the moves beforehand and executes them all at once, like programming.
Robot Turtles is a lot of fun and Evie asks to play it a lot. I love the additional obstacles and other elements that can be introduced to increase the difficulty level for older children, I know this will be a game we will be playing for a long time. I highly recommend picking up a copy for your kids and start working on your turtle sound effects and your turtle dance!
Robot Turtles Game is available on Amazon and is also sold at Target. Check out the Robot Turtles website for a quick how to play video.
