Diane from CraftyPod can be directly linked to my obsession with English paper piecing, and her new book All Points Patchwork* is an incredible resource to get you started. I will be doing a full review of the book soon, but it is amazing. It’s not just a book of patterns, it’s a complete guide to how to work with 12 different shapes and how to make your own patterns. If you have been wanting to try EPPing but aren’t sure where to get started, I cannot recommend this book enough.

So when I had the opportunity to take part in the All Points Patchwork blog hop, I was on it! The blog hop runs through November and each month is a different theme. It’s so fun to see everyone’s take on a theme, don’t forget to check out the incredible projects that were made for this hop!

Diamonds are such a versatile shape and can make so many different patterns. I was going to mix it up but I kept being drawn to doing a star. Jen from 52Lasers gave me some laser cut 1″ diamond templates. Now if you don’t have someone who can give you laser cut templates, I’ve put together one you can print out and cut with scissors the old fashioned way.

The top of the pincushion is 6 diamonds made into a star, and then 6 more diamonds turned sideways to make it into a hexagon.

At this point I enlisted Diane’s help because I wasn’t sure the best way to make the structure of the pincushion. Each of the sides of the hexagon are 2″ and I made the rectangles 1.5″ tall.

This is the first time I’ve used Clover Wonder Clips* for EPPing and they are absolutely amazing. Once all the rectangles were on the sides I added one large hexagon to the bottom.

I left about an inch that wasn’t joined together and then removed the papers and turned it the right way. Mollie from Wild Olive gave me some Ground Walnut Shells* and I filled it with that. I usually use a blend of poly-fil and plastic pellets for my pincushions but I really love the weight of it with the walnut shells.

Once it was filled I used a ladder stitch to close up the rest of the hole. If you aren’t sure how to do a ladder stitch, Wendi from Shiny Happy World has a great video. I do wish I had used a darker shade of gray for my stitches, it’s more visible than I would have liked, but I still really love how this project turned out.
