Modern Sewcialites January Block and other Updates

I always hate being someone that constantly complains about being busy, but things really have been a total whirlwind lately.

We’ve been living in Colorado for over a year now and I absolutely love it here. The girls have made a lot of friends and settled in really well. I’ve forced myself to get out of my comfort zone and actively pursue opportunities to be social. Last year I joined the Boulder Modern Quilt Guild, and this year I’ve increased my involvement by joining the board as the social media coordinator. I redesigned the website and have been working hard to promote the super awesome Block of the Month we have going on.

Then in addition to my role on the guild board, I’m also the co-leader for Evie’s Daisy troop this year. The last few weeks have been been a constant flurry of cookie related activities, and I still need to finish some projects for the booth sales that start Saturday.

Add on my design and marketing job, and taking care of two small children and by the time I actually have the chance to write a blog post, I use that time instead to sew. Oh, that’s another reason I’ve been scarce here… I’ve pretty much stopped cross stitching all together so it’s felt weird but I think I just need to redirect things. I still have my patterns available in my Etsy shop but it’s unlikely I’ll add more anytime soon. My focus has been solely on quilting.

So another big project I worked on recently was the redesign of Modern Sewciety’s website and helping launch Modern Sewcialites. Modern Sewcialites is a membership that has a Block of the Month in addition to other fun monthly content.

For January the challenge is to create a word for the year and then make a block. I was sent an amazing rainbow of Michael Miller Cotton Couture solids. Originally I was going to create a word related to finishing projects or accomplishing things. When I was looking at the thesaurus page for Finish I came across the list of words for the noun definition of “coating” and I was drawn to Shine.

Stephanie calls for it to be appliqué, but I’ve been on a big foundation paper piecing kick lately so I used the Geometric alphabet from QuietPlay.

I am far more active on Instagram, but I have a lot of plans for Hugs are Fun to make a comeback this year.
