Book Review – Amigurumi at Home

Book Review - Amigurumi at Home by Hugs are Fun

I’ve been doing a lot more crocheting lately because I am trying to finish Mira’s blanket. I try to limit my yarn projects I have at any given time because I’m not as good about finishing them as I am with embroideries and cross stitches. However, once I finish this blanket I am going to be making something from Ana Paula Rimoli’s new book Amigurumi at Home: Crochet Playful Pillows, Rugs, Baskets, and More.

This book has an amazing selection of really unique patterns, there isn’t a single granny square to be found. But there is a cupcake rug, a tooth pillow, a robot pajama holder, and a ton of other absolutely adorable projects.

This is Ana Paula Rimoli’s fifth book but it’s the first one I have gotten a chance to check out. She has three books that are toys and one that is entirely bags and backpacks! I really love the variations of projects.

The book is really well designed and the patterns are all very clear and easy to read. Some of the projects have felt embellishments and there are templates for them. The templates are all to size and nothing needs to be enlarged which I definitely appreciate.

The projects all have cute little intros where Ana Paula talks about why she designed it or gives a little more information. My favorite was the story for the Tooth Fairy Pillow. Apparently, in Uraguay (where Ana Paula is from) instead of a tooth fairy coming to collect teeth, a little mouse named Perez comes to collect them. Because he is so little he has a hard time lifting the children’s heads to collect the teeth under pillows, so this pillow is a great place to leave the tooth so he can get to it easier. Evie isn’t to the point where she is losing teeth, but when she does I will be crocheting up one of these pillows, it’s adorable!

Amigurumi at Home has a really great variety of projects and they all feel very new and unique. I also appreciate when a book has a clear resource section. It’s always nice to have information about crochet hooks and yarn weights right in the book so you can reference it easily. The projects are bright and colorful and while they are perfect for children, they would also be fun for adults too! Who says adults can’t have a dinosaur rug in their house?

I love that dino and the turtle in the cover picture. The robot is pretty cute too! I need to learn to crochet. I see so many cute things like this and it makes me wish I could. Like I really need another thing on my plate right now. Haha.

I much prefer embroidery or cross stitching but I do enjoy having some ongoing crochet projects. I usually prefer to work with yarn in the winter so I can cuddle up with the project.
I think crochet is pretty easy to learn, you should give it a try!
