It’s time for another Try it Tuesday! Try It Tuesday was started by the ladies at Trends with Benefits as a way to get crafty bloggers to try out different tutorials. This week I chose this felt hexagon tutorial from Nancy at Do Small Things with Love.
I used some of the wool felt I got from Benzie Design, I got it with the intention of making these Wild Olive ornaments, but that hasn’t happened yet. I have always loved stitching on felt, and this stuff from Benzie Design is amazing. I noticed she even sells felt hexagons in her shop!
I also cut out hexagons to make a pink and white version, but haven’t had the time to stitch that one up yet. I love the versatility and customizability of this project.
Some of my spacing is a little off. I think it would have been helpful if I pinned the hexagons down before starting to stitch them. But I like to live dangerously so I didn’t. I’m still really happy with how it turned out. I am thinking it might be fun to make a pillow with felt hexagons, who knows, the possibilities are endless!
Have you tried any new projects this week?
This is adorable! How big is it finished?
It’s almost 6 inches. If I put a heat resistant interfacing it could almost be a trivet.
I absolutely love this!! There is something so satisfying about hexagons xx
Thanks, I agree! I think it’s how nicely they fit together, it’s such a satisfying thing to piece them together.
This is really so simple and looks really nice too.
Dear Rebecca
Felt is so lovely to work with – I have always loved it too. I enjoy making my own 100% wool felt – you can’t beat proper wool felt! Felt does tend to move about while being stitched, though, I agree. This is a great project which looks really effective – congratulations!
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie, do you use wool roving? I’ve done some wet felting and want to try needle felting. But I never thought to do sheets of felt before!
Very cute! Felt is a nice material, your coaster looks great!
It turned out so cute.
