Vow Renewal Gifts!

This past weekend my sister and brother-in-law had a 10 year vow renewal celebration. Their wedding 10 years ago was at the courthouse so this was their first chance to have a big celebration and I really wanted to make something special for it.

I loved how the recipe box that Jen from 52Lasers cut for Josh’s sister’s wedding shower, so I knew I wanted to make one for my sister and brother-in-law. I sent messages to everyone coming and collected recipes for them and then made matching recipe cards with all of them.

I also knew I wanted to make an embroidery for them but was having a hard time coming up with what I wanted to do. I spent some time browsing vow renewal gift ideas on Pinterest but none of them seemed right. I eventually settled on this idea because I wanted it to have both the original wedding date and the vow renewal date.

This was my first time ever doing stem stitch and I like it but I feel like there was a much bigger learning curve than with other embroidery stitches. I started out doing it the way that Mollie from Wild Olive says NOT to, but once I saw the other way she suggests where it’s done as a backstitch, it made it so much easier. I felt like I had a better control over the curve and it looked smoother.

I also made this sign to hang up at the reception afterwards. I used Thermoweb Heat’n Bond Ultra Hold no sew adhesive* and cut the letters out with my Silhouette CAMEO.

I love making handmade gifts and I’m super happy with how these turned out. And I’m super happy for my sister and brother-in-law and loved being able to help celebrate!

You should definitely give embroidery a try! I love cross stitch and embroidery because they don’t require a lot of supplies to get started and it’s so portable! If you decide to give it a go, I’d love to see!
