Wedding Gift Embroidery

Over the weekend I attended my sister-in-law’s bridal shower and my cousin’s wedding. I made embroideries for both events, and I am so excited to finally be able to show off what I made!

The font for the names is Lobster Two which you can download for free. I love this font, especially for things with names. It’s the same one I used for the purple work Christmas gift I made for my sister.

My initial thought was to satin stitch the type, but I worried about my ability to keep it looking neat and even. So instead I used a split stitch outline. I like the effect that the split stitch has and it stands out compared to the other backstitched elements.

After I finished the names and wedding date I felt like it needed a little something more. I started Googling and looking at different floral elements and then I had the idea to check out some of Carina’s patterns since she her book Stitched Blooms is all flowers. I came across this gorgeous pattern on her shop decided to just take a few elements from the design and put them on either side of the names.

I was originally going to use color but decided against it and I am really glad I kept it so minimal. I tend to overdo it sometimes with color, so working with only white and grays was definitely a challenge for me, but I think the result looks very elegant and can work with any color scheme.

Have you made any handmade gifts lately?

Embroidery has taken me a really long time to get comfortable with, and I still am not the most confident. I see so many mistakes and awkward stitches, but I know I’m also a lot more critical. It’s definitely something you need to just dive in and work on because you will improve!
