So this is going to be an early Free Pattern Friday, and it’s a different kind of pattern! Instead of a cross stitch pattern, I made my first ever English paper piecing pattern. I’m posting it today instead of Friday because tomorrow will be the big link up of all the awesome Halloween projects that everyone made!

Alicia from Felt With Love Designs organized a Halloween crafty tutorial link up. I did a Christmas one last year and a flower one this last spring so I was excited to take part.

I am usually so bad about making projects based on a holiday or season, so doing link ups like this gives me a good motivation to create something! The candy corn could go on anything when you’re done- a pillow, a wall hanging, a table runner. I decided to make a trick or treat bag.

The candy corn is a super simple pattern even if you’ve never done English paper piecing before. The triangles are a simple shape and are each to baste and join. I used the Purl Bee twenty minute tote bag, even with my mediocre sewing skills, it was only about 20 minutes! It was super easy and I really like how it turned out! I used fabric glue to attach the candy corn to the bag and then machine stitched it on. You could do an invisible stitch if you’d like, but I didn’t mind the stitching around the edge.

Well she already declared that she would rather use the store bought pink pumpkin bucket, but maybe her sister will be more appreciative of the handmade one!

I love how it turned out!! Great job! So funny that she doesn’t even want to use it 🙂 I made Kallie a Trick or Treat bag last year (posting it this year) but she keeps begging me to get one of those pink plastic pumpkins. Ugh! Thank you for joining the link-up!

Thanks for organizing the link up!

Evie has an orange pumpkin bucket but she’s said in the past that she wants a pink one. As soon as they showed up at Target she insisted she HAD to have one because they might sell out.
