A while back I tried out waste canvas and then found out that water soluble canvas exists. I went out and got some right away but it sat dormant for months until I finally unearthed it over the weekend. I'm doing yet another hexagon project, (are you guys tired of hexagons yet? I'm not!) and I thought a cross stitched hexagon would be a fun addition. I did my old standby of stitching up a little heart. Water soluble canvas is a thin plastic sheet with holes for cross stitching. This allows you to cross stitch on any fabric that is washable. I've been curious to try ... Read More
Dumpling Swap – What I Got!
My swap package came Friday and I was lucky enough to get a pouch from Susi at Lila Louise! The pouch is gorgeous and the package was also full of tons of goodies from Germany! The fabrics are fantastic, especially this cross stitch one! I will probably hoard it away because I'll be too nervous to use it for anything. Right away I started using the smaller fabric pieces for hexagons. There was also a little stack of squares that are destined to be made into a patchwork project of some sort. Evie was extremely excited about the candy and she ate the ... Read More
Lotion and Sugar Scrub Making – Whimseybox Review
Whimseybox is a craft subscription box, but they also sell a huge variety of craft supplies. I received a box to review and was really excited to see what the project was. This month's kit was to make a lemon honey lotion and sugar scrub. Everything was extremely well designed and packaged beautifully. Opening the box was truly like opening a present, there was even a ribbon holding it all together. The instructions were extremely well written and accompanied by easy to follow photos of every step of the process. The instructions are also available online along ... Read More
Dumpling Pouch Swap!
Susi from Lila Luise organized a swap on Instagram to make a dumpling pouch and fill it with fabric and candy. I signed up even though I seriously doubted my ability to make the pouch, but Susi insisted that I would be fine. The pattern for the dumpling pouch is free to download. This is actually my first completed English paper piecing project and I love it. I used 3/4" hexagons and joined them all into a piece of fabric large enough to cover the interfacing. I fused the interfacing to it and cut around it, which was the most nerve wracking part! I was convinced I ... Read More
A Little English Paper Pieced Flower
I had an idea in my head that I wanted to try out. I have been making so many English paper pieces hexagons, I wanted to try out another shape. And not just any shape, I wanted to try a custom shape. I thought a geometric tulip would be fun, and after my tulip plush I've had spring on my mind! I drew the shape out on paper and then made a template in Illustrator to get more crisp shapes. Generally I'm pretty pleased at my first attempt. I made a rookie mistake of making it way too small though. I thought it would be quicker to whip up a little flower, but the ... Read More
Laser Cut Peacock Floss Organizer!
I have a couple fun things to share this week, but they aren't ready yet. In the meantime I thought I would show off this awesome floss organizer. It was a 52Lasers project and I absolutely love it. I used it to put all the colors for my current embroidery project which you can see a little sneak peek of. For a lot of my projects I use way too many colors to use a floss organizer, but this one only has five colors so it works perfectly. The peacock floss organizer and other designs are available at Beadeux. ... Read More
Plush Club – Tulip
A friend from college does a Plush Club in Kansas City and recently posted a photo of a flyer for a plant themed plush club challenge. I haven't really ever made any plushes before, but I loved the idea of trying. Plus, a friend just gave me an enormous bag of poly-fill that she was getting rid of and Evie has been asking me to make something with it. I decided I wanted to make a tulip so I started with a simple sketch. I didn't make a pattern because I figured it would be straight forward enough to just draw it larger onto the fleece I was using. It generally ... Read More
Hoop-La Project
I realized I never showed off the project I did for Hoop-La! I offered up this pattern as a Free Pattern Friday download and it got turned into a felt coaster. I love how it turned out! I was also extremely excited that the bow tie cross stitch kits made their way into the magazine as well. If you haven't picked up a copy, you can download a digital version! It's such a great magazine! Also, I have a guest post over at &stitches today! Go check it out! ... Read More
