1000 Cranes? What Was I Thinking?

When I started my 1000 crane quilt project I was well aware that the undertaking was insane and that it was going to be a lot of work. Then I breezed through my first 100 in about 3 months and I felt like I was going to be ok and I got a false sense of security. Fast forward 10 months and I have only have 148. So that means that in over 3x the amount of time I only finished half the amount of cranes I did in those first 3 months. And to make it worse, I went to here and checked how many days I have until my target completion day and found there's less than ... Read More

Free Pattern Friday – Origami Crane

I've been slowly moving along with my 1000 crane quilt. I've been trying to dedicate a bit of time every day to stitching them, I really keep to be finishing them at a more steady rate if I have any hope of finishing them by my 2018 goal. I've gotten a huge amount of interest and support for my project on Instgram and I've had multiple requests for the pattern. I've emailed it to a few people but I figured I would post it here for anyone who wants a copy. The crane is about 2" high and 2.5" wide and fits on a 1.5" hexagon, but you can scale it to any size ... Read More

Scrapbusting Ideas – Home Projects

So if you are like Alicia from Felt With Love Designs and I, you're always looking for ways to use up your fabric scraps. We started something this year that we are calling the No Scrap Left Behind Challenge. Every other month we are setting a theme and we would love for you to join along. The first theme was "small projects," check out what I made here and what Alicia made here. The next theme is "home" and I have a bunch of fun, scrap busting project ideas. One of my favorite ways to use scraps is by making hexagons. They don't need much fabric and they ... Read More

Dream Big Blog Hop – A Hexie Pencil Case

I love English paper piecing and foundation paper piecing for a lot of the same reasons. The both allow you to make really precise shapes without needing to do precision cutting or measuring. Susi from Tiny Toffee Designs has combined the two by making these amazingly adorable little foundation paper pieces that are meant to be turned into 1" EPP hexies. This pencil pattern is part of the Dream Big series. As soon as I saw the pencil I knew I needed to make a rainbow of them. I made the pencil case about 8" wide and 3.5" tall, it perfectly fits pencils. ... Read More

1000 Crane Quilt – Where I’m At

It's been a long time since I've updated about the 1000 Crane Quilt. I've slowly been working on it, but it definitely has slowed down a lot. I feel like I made such good progress in the first few months, but then with Christmas gift making and my increased machine sewing, I just haven't been making very many of these. I counted them up and was pretty discouraged to see that since my last update in August, I've only finished 22 hexagons. (Please note: affiliate links are indicated by an asterisk*.) I do have more finished embroideries than that, but I ... Read More

Save the UFOs – February

Last month I posted my UFO list with the goal of finishing some projects. I was feeling really daunted because the list was so long and so many of them seemed so far from completion. But I have some good news, I managed to cross THREE things off the list this month and I'm really close to another! I've been itching to start a new English paper piecing project but despite being a member of Project Starters Anonymous, I had to put my foot down on that one. I told myself I wouldn't start a new English paper piecing project until I finished the two Ferris wheel ... Read More

A Reverse Appliqué Heart

So one of my 2016 goals was not to sign up for swaps. This goal lasted approximately one month and then I signed up for one that needed to be shipped within a week. The swap was to send a heart coaster and 25 Valentine colored hexies. One of my partner's favorite colors was teal so I declared that to also be a Valentine color. I've wanted to try out reverse appliqué for a long time but I've been nervous and have let that hold me back, but I immediately knew I wanted to try it for the heart. I used this paper pieced heart and reverse appliqué tutorial from ... Read More

Death Star Mini Quilt!

All the way back in September I started two mini quilts for Josh. The first was the Batman EPP quilt I gave him for his birthday and the second was the Death Star from Quirky Granola Girl. Please note: This post contains affiliate links as indicated by an asterisk.* I figured I would start both and hopefully finish one by his birthday in October and the other for Christmas. Mollie from Wild Olive made her own Death Star mini quilt earlier last year and gave me some of the gray scraps she had leftover. Piecing it was a lot more intimidating than I expected. ... Read More
