Googly Eye Monster Embroidery

Yesterday we went to a friend's daughter's one year birthday party. This freaks me out because it means Mira's birthday is rapidly approaching. I can't believe in less than a month my baby will be one, it feels like only yesterday I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance to have her. Anyways... Back to the party. It was a monster themed party, so I decided to make some monster embroideries. The invitation was covered in goggly eyes and I thought it would be fun to bring them into the embroideries. I drew about 8 monsters but these three made the cut. The ... Read More

Laser Cut Recipe Box and Matching Embroidery

Josh's sister is getting married in July and her bridal shower was last weekend. The invitation came from Casalastudio on Etsy and I used the design to make a few gifts. Along with the invitation, everyone got recipe cards to share their favorite recipes. I briefly debated painting a recipe box for her, but instead talked to Jen from 52 lasers about etching it with the laser cutter. Originally I had planned on painted the letters after it was etched, but it turned out so amazing I didn't want to risk messing it up. The banner underneath has their wedding date on it. ... Wedding Gift Embroidery

Over the weekend I attended my sister-in-law's bridal shower and my cousin's wedding. I made embroideries for both events, and I am so excited to finally be able to show off what I made! The font for the names is Lobster Two which you can download for free. I love this font, especially for things with names. It's the same one I used for the purple work Christmas gift I made for my sister. My initial thought was to satin stitch the type, but I worried about my ability to keep it looking neat and even. So instead I used a split stitch outline. I like the ... Read More

Doodle Stitchalong Progress

I love the response there has been to the Doodle Stitchalong. I've had a couple people link up posts, and quite a few participants on Instagram! If you haven't started, it's not too late! Don't feel like you have to finish it or like there is any pressure, it's just meant to be fun! I hadn't worked on my own in awhile, so on Easter when we took a little road trip I brought it along. It was a great project to work on in the car, just stitching without thinking too much. I used some variegated thread and I really love the effect. I might need to play around with ... Read More

Free Cat Patterns!

I wrote a guest post for Bugs and Fishes and made a free pattern for this felt cat. You can see the tutorial and download the pattern there. The finished embroidery fits in a 6" hoop. I also made the cat into a free embroidery pattern! I should have used a stabilizer for the fabric, the satin stitches bunch up in some areas, but I think he's pretty cute if I do say so myself! Download the free embroidery pattern here. This cat would also make a good companion for the little bunny lady I posted the other day, did you download that pattern yet? And don't forget ... Free Bunny Pattern – Felt Embroidery Hoop

I'm not sure if you know this, but I went to school for illustration. I don't draw as much as I'd like, but it was on my list of 2014 goals to do it more. I love working with felt, and this felt wool from Benzie Design is so wonderful to stitch on! I created a free pattern for you to make your own felt hoop, but I've also made an embroidery pattern as well! To make the bunny you'll need: Wool felt - I made her white, but I think she would also look pretty cute in brown! Doodle Stitch Along and Link Up

I was pleasantly surprised by the positive reactions to my doodle embroidery I posted. People seemed to really love the idea and a few people on Instagram mentioned having their own doodle stitching project! So I am starting my first stitch along and link up. There are no rules, just let this be fun! Choose any patterned fabric and use embroidery stitches to doodle or color in the fabric. I think it's a great chance to explore using different colors and stitches. Tag your photos with #doodlestitchalong on Instagram or link up a blog post showing off your ... Read More

Doodle Embroidery

Someone needs to save me from myself. Just yesterday I posted about all my current projects, then what do I do? Last night I started yet another one! I saw this pillow at IKEA and immediately thought it looked like a coloring book and I wanted to stitch on it. This is going to take awhile, but I find it very relaxing. I'm not obsessing over colors or perfection, I'm just filling it in with various stitches. So far I've done back stitch, split stitch, French knots, scallop stitch, and satin stitch. I'm going to use this as an opportunity to try out different ... Read More
