A while back I tried out waste canvas and then found out that water soluble canvas exists. I went out and got some right away but it sat dormant for months until I finally unearthed it over the weekend. I'm doing yet another hexagon project, (are you guys tired of hexagons yet? I'm not!) and I thought a cross stitched hexagon would be a fun addition. I did my old standby of stitching up a little heart. Water soluble canvas is a thin plastic sheet with holes for cross stitching. This allows you to cross stitch on any fabric that is washable. I've been curious to try ... Read More
Experimental Cross Stitching – Fuse Beads
I wanted to play around with fuse beads, (or Perler or Hama beads, they go by many names) so last time we were at IKEA I picked up a gigantic tub of them. I will occasionally see things on Pinterest and the patterns are so interchangeable with cross stitching. My original plan was to make one of my cross stitch patterns out of the beads, which I will probably still do. However, Jenn of Beadeux, Isette, and 52Lasers fame, suggested using the beads to make a canvas and stitch on that. I was going to make a really large canvas to work on, but decided to start small. I ... Read More
A Beastly Swap
Well after a slight delay, this has finally made it's way into the hands of Olisa from cocoaeyesthestitcher and I can show it off. This was my fourth swap, they usually take place over at the Phat Quarter Flickr group, but this one was on the new social network site Weave. If you're a stitcher, you should definitely sign up! You can see what I did for the first three swaps here. The theme was "Bestiary" and I thought it would be so easy but I had a really hard time. I got such an amazing piece from Olisa from the last swap, I felt a lot of pressure to make sure I ... Read More
Quilty Stitches Update
I had hoped to be sharing the piece I made for the latest Mr. X Stitch swap, but unfortunately it wasn't delivered yesterday like it was supposed to be. So I figured I would show off my progress on the Quilty Stitches Sampler. I just finished my fourth block which I really love. This is really my first time ever working from someone else's pattern and I'm really enjoying it. I love seeing all the different color schemes that everyone has chosen. I like how one pattern can be transformed so many different ways by just changing the color. It's not too late to ... Read More
Free Pattern Friday – Lego Movie Unikitty!
The credit for this pattern goes to my husband Josh. He told me he had an idea for a pattern that he was going to make, and it just so happened to coincide with Free Pattern Friday. If you're one of the many, many people who can't stop singing "Everything is Awesome!" you will definitely appreciate this adorable Unikitty cross stitch pattern! Josh and I got to see the Lego Movie together on Valentine's Day and we both absolutely loved it. You just can't resist Unikitty, she's so adorable and such a terrific character! I haven't started this one yet, but ... Read More
WIP Wednesday – A is for Astronaut
I was hoping to do a space flashcard a month, but I'm way behind schedule for that. I am in the process of working on one though and I'm really loving it. I decided to go back and start at the beginning of the alphabet, so I'm doing A for astronaut. I'm hoping to finish it up over the weekend, but I can't decide what color to use for the text. I'm torn between the blue or red. Thoughts? ... Read More
Pantone Paint Swatch Embroidery
A few weeks ago, Terri from Sew Fantastic posted a photo of some Pantone paint swatches on Instagram. I knew Pantone paint existed, but I had never seen the paint swatches before and I rushed to Lowe's that night to get some. I knew right away that I wanted to stitch on them, but I put them aside because I wasn't sure what I wanted to embroider on them. Then the other night I got a text from Teresa from Daisies for Violet about these handy little things for punching holes in paper. I've seen them at Target but they were more than I wanted to spend for something ... Read More
