I reviewed the December Darby Smart To DIY For box and loved it. I've been lucky enough to be sent several others (that I still need to do!) When I got my February box, I forgot about all my other projects and just had to try it out! It was a coaster set using alcohol inks designed by Rachel from 52 Weeks Project. I had never used alcohol inks before but they were a lot of fun, though I have pink fingers today. I think this would be fun with older kids, but I knew Evie was too young, so I waited until she was asleep. Darby Smart always impresses me with the ... Read More
WIP Wednesday – A Tale of Two Blankets
I started a blanket for Evie when I was still pregnant with Mira. It's a starburst granny square one and I love it, but the idea of joining it and weaving in the ends was enough to make me hide it away for months. During that time I started a blanket for Mira, this one is a giant granny square. I purposefully chose a pattern that wouldn't require joining and would have a lot less ends to weave in at the end. One of my 2014 goals was to finish both blankets. I finally got my act together and started joining Evie's blanket. I decided to single crochet them together ... Read More
Wild Olive Spring Stitching Club
This winter has been brutal here in Illinois, it's been so cold and there's been so much snow. I am definitely ready for spring, and the Wild Olive Spring Stitching Club is a good thing to keep me busy until it shows up! I'm still behind on the Winter Stitching Club, I've stitched most of the designs but have only assembled one hexagon. I copied the same fabrics that Mollie used and I am in love with them. They are so bright and pretty, I working with them makes me so happy! The hexagons are bigger than I'm used to working with, but I like them a lot. I think it ... Read More
Traveling Gingerbread House – A Sparkly Lollipop
Mollie from Wild Olive and Susi from Lilla Louise organized a traveling gingerbread house. You can read more here, Last week I got a package from Kim from Babes and Brides, it was my turn to add a piece of candy! Along with the gingerbread house there was also a journal to write a bit about your candy choice, I loved reading everyone's stories! Kim also sent an adorable snowman cross stitch kit, some floss bobbins, a skein of DMC 9 , and a mug rug she made using Mollie's tutorial. I had wanted to make one of these because I absolutely love them, and Kim picked the ... Read More
Coffee Filter Flowers – Guest Post
I have another toddler craft project over at My Craftily Ever After. I know it's not spring yet, but you can make a bouquet of these bright flowers and pretend like it is! This craft is super simple but a lot of fun. I think I enjoyed making them just as much as Evie did and we keep making more all the time. Head over to my Craftily Ever After to get the full tutorial! Also in a completely unrelated note, look at this awesome picture that Evie drew on the iPad. ... Read More
Book Review – Modern Baby Crochet
I came across Stacey Trock's book Modern Baby Crochet: Patterns for Decorating, Playing, and Snuggling right after Mira was born and I was immediately interested in checking it out. So I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to review it. Stacey is the designer behind Fresh Stitches, so while I was familiar with her amigarumi animals, I was really excited to see her take on baby crochet items. I was looking for patterns for baby items for Mira and I felt like I kept coming across the same things, Stacey's book offers a lot of fresh new alternatives. While the book ... Read More
WIP Wednesday – A is for Astronaut
I was hoping to do a space flashcard a month, but I'm way behind schedule for that. I am in the process of working on one though and I'm really loving it. I decided to go back and start at the beginning of the alphabet, so I'm doing A for astronaut. I'm hoping to finish it up over the weekend, but I can't decide what color to use for the text. I'm torn between the blue or red. Thoughts? ... Read More
Pantone Paint Swatch Embroidery
A few weeks ago, Terri from Sew Fantastic posted a photo of some Pantone paint swatches on Instagram. I knew Pantone paint existed, but I had never seen the paint swatches before and I rushed to Lowe's that night to get some. I knew right away that I wanted to stitch on them, but I put them aside because I wasn't sure what I wanted to embroider on them. Then the other night I got a text from Teresa from Daisies for Violet about these handy little things for punching holes in paper. I've seen them at Target but they were more than I wanted to spend for something ... Read More
