Experimental Cross Stitching – Paper

So my obsession with cross stitching on different surfaces continues, this time with watercolor paper. I got the idea from the amazing Olisa Corcoran, who was actually the one who wrote the Mr. X Stitch post that featured my periodic table cross stitch. She has done some incredible embroideries on brightly saturated watercolor paintings and she inspired me to try some cross stitching. I was just working with some of Evie's Crayola watercolors and didn't get the same vibrancy as Olisa's pieces, but I think it turned out cute. The paper is a lot easier to punch holes in ... Experimental Cross Stitching – Cardboard Box

I've been really interested in the idea of cross stitching on different surfaces besides just Aida fabric. I did the waste canvas experiment and wanted to try some other surfaces as well. I saw this upcycled box on Pinterest and decided to give it a try with a $.99 cardboard box from Michael's. I added a quick coat of craft paint and then got to work poking holes. I made some errors with how I did this, and the holes were the first. ... Read More

Fixing the Periodic Table

But as a chemistry major I have to say you are missing an element. The place that has He right now should have Ne and He should be moved up to the same level as H." I honestly can't believe I didn't notice, but I think I looked at this so much it was all a blur. ... Read More

Curious George Cross Stitch!

Evie's friend recently turned 3 and was having a Curious George birthday party, so I decided to make him a cross stitch. Unfortunately, it took much longer than I expected and it was a couple weeks late. I thought it turned out really cute, but it makes me nervous to give gifts that I've made. When he opened it he kissed it, so I think it's safe to say he liked it! ... Read More

Waste Canvas Cross Stitch Experiment

The other day I was reading through a Mr. X Stitch post about cross stitching and saw reference to "waste canvas." I had never heard of it so I started exploring further and my mind nearly exploded. It's a cross stitch grid that allows you to cross stitch on any fabric. You just place it on the surface of the fabric you want to use, do your cross stitch, and then you pull out the strings afterwards. I couldn't believe this had escaped me for so long and I immediately started brainstorming all of the different possibilities that this opened up. I'm working on a ... Read More
