A Very Hexie Christmas – Hexie Garland

It's been very busy and I'm just finally getting around to my next installment of A Very Hexie Christmas. I have a couple more I'm hoping to still get done before Christmas among my growing stack of Christmas gifts I'm making. Mollie from Wild Olive took part and put together an awesome hexie ornament tutorial, so make sure you check that out too! The garland uses a lot of the same basics as the hexie ornaments, so definitely check out that one too. How To Assemble a Laser Cut Hexie Necklace

A few weeks ago I had an idea for a necklace with tiny, fabric hexagons. I had made some English paper pieced .25" hexagons and they were absolutely adorable, but so light that I didn't think they would work as a necklace. I turned to Jennifer from 52 Lasers with a laser cutting request and she produced an awesome pendant. Then when she dropped off the hexie flower design, she also gave me another version that is a bar with 5 hexies. I shared the necklace photo on Instagram and it got a lot of love. You can purchase the pendants directly from Jennifer in her Etsy ... Read More

A Very Hexie Christmas – Hexie Ornaments

I have a million Christmas gifts I want to make, so naturally I decided the proper thing to do would be to start a series of tutorials leading up to Christmas instead of actually making those gifts... And the best part? They're all going to feature hexagons! I'm a little hexie obsessed lately (ok, for a couple years now) and I've been having fun implementing them into Christmas decorations! So here's the first one, a hexie ornament! Please note: This post contains affiliate links as indicated by an asterisk.* Supplies: EPP hexagons of any size - I used ... Read More

Experimental Stitching – Fusion Hexagons

It's been awhile since I've done some experimental stitching, but this idea made me drop everything so I could try it right away. Someone sent me this link to a crochet and fabric fusion blanket and suggested I do it with hexagons. I've been seeing things like this floating around Pinterest but it never crossed my mind to do it with english paper piecing! I looked at the link and immediately had to try it. I really love how it turned out but unless I can figure out an easy way, I can't imagine making an entire quilt like this. For the first one I tried doing it ... Read More

Update on the 1000 Crane Quilt

It's been two weeks since I started my 1000 crane quilt that I intend to finish in 2018. Don't worry, I won't be posting updates every two weeks, I probably will do quarterly updates. But I wanted to show off the new fussy cutting template I got! Jen did a 52 Lasers post on fussy cutting and I immediately knew I would need one for these cranes. Having the template to line up where the embroidery will be on the hexagon makes it so much easier! So the totals so far - 42/479 solid hexagons 29/1000 embroidered hexagons As of right now I'm not stressing ... Read More

Rainbow Hexagon Needlebook

I so rarely make things for myself, but I signed up for the Selfish Swap over at Things for Boys and it seemed like the perfect chance to make some things I've been putting off. First up is a new obsession of mine, these little hexagon needle books. I've made three so far, one for a swap that has to stay secret for now, and one that I will be sharing soon. But the third one, this is for me! I used this tutorial from My Three Sons and it goes so quickly. I used 1" strips and sewed them together with a 1/4" seam. I basted them like I normally would onto a ... Read More

WIP Finish – Another Hexie Headband

One of my 2015 goals was to finish more projects that I have started. I started the year off strong and then tapered off. Instead of finishing existing projects I just keep starting more... Stephanie at Swoodson Says posted a link with different headband patterns she's made and it reminded me of a long, long forgot WIP. Last year I started playing around with making English paper pieced hexagons out of old t-shirts. I had this idea to make a headband, I hoped that even with joining them the hexagons would be stretchy. It didn't work quite like I envisioned but I ... Read More

10 Year Anniversary Quilt

Last year I created an origami crane cross stitch pattern and in the back of my mind I kept thinking about how neat it would be to stitch 1000 cranes. But my logical side told me that idea was crazy and I should focus my efforts on reasonable projects instead. I seriously started thinking about it again last week and was trying to figure out how to make it happen. My first thought was to get an enormous piece of fabric and embroider them all onto it. While I think that would have looked cool, it seemed silly because then what am I going to do with a giant piece of ... Read More
