I've wanted to do a weekly post of interesting things I've found on the interwebs but always talked myself out of it because I didn't know if anyone else would care. But it's a new year, and this year I'm going to try it anyways! This is a trial run, we'll see what sort of feedback I get and how it goes! I got a message this week from someone that bought my solar system cross stitch pattern on Etsy. She sent me a photo of the finished piece she made for her son, complete with a quote from Interplanet Janet from School House Rock. I also love the added star stitches! ... Read More
WIP Wednesday – Hexagons!
This week there has been a lot of hexagon making! I have been focusing on two main projects, first was getting caught up on the Wild Olive Winter Stitching Club. (You can still sign up!) I had five weeks to catch up on, I hadn't started them because of all the Christmas projects. I love stitching these little designs, they are so cute and stitch up really quickly. I haven't done this week's yet, and I still have to finish the hexagons. I ordered the Moda In From the Cold charm pack, but it hasn't come yet. Then I've been making hexagons like crazy. I got Quilting ... Read More
Review – Modern One-Block Quilts
I was really excited to receive an ebook review copy of Modern One-Block Quilts: 22 Fresh Patchwork Projects* , and it did not disappoint! The book starts out with a great section on learning to sew, so even if you are a complete quilting beginner, Modern One-Block Quilts can help! It lays out a variety of different types of quilting blocks and how to make them. I know that when I finally choose which of ... Read More
Making Hexagons!
I've been wanting to try out English paper piecing to make hexagons for awhile. I always see pictures on Instagram of hexagon quilting projects and I wanted to get in on it! I've seen plenty of free templates for hexagons, but I just spent a couple dollars and picked up a pack of precut hexagons. I knew that I would never get around to making these if I had to cut out my own paper hexagons. I used this terrific tutorial from the Zen of Making to learn the process. I have a big box of scrap fabric and I dug through and prepped a handful of hexagons. I made these ... Read More
A Possible Quilt?
So I keep mentioning my desire to make a quilt. I've never made one before but I am obsessed with looking at quilts on Pinterest and Instagram, and I got Quilting Happiness for my birthday and I'm currently reading a review copy of Modern One-Block Quilts. I think part of my fascination with quilts is that they remind me of large scale cross stitches. A lot of the different quilt squares could easily translate to cross stitches, and some of my geometric cross stitches could be made into a quilt. Well, I pulled out a box of sewing things the other day and came across ... Read More
