Last week I showed off the amazing package I got for the ice cream pencil case swap and now I can finally show what I sent! I sent a package to Julia all the way in Germany. She listed her favorite flavors as mint chocolate chip, chocolate, and vanilla. I really struggled to find fabric the right shade of mint, so many seemed too blue or too green. I found a few fabrics that fit the bill and I made some hexagons. I also used water soluble canvas to cross stitch little ice cream cones onto brown fabric. I decided to make it out of felt and got a chocolate ice ... Read More
Ice Cream Pencil Case Swap!
You might have noticed that I really, really love doing swaps. I keep saying I don't have time for them or that I'm going to take a break, and I always end up signing up for more. I'm actually signed up for two more in the next couple months, I just can't help myself! The most recent swap I participated in was an ice cream themed one to send a pencil case. Each participant gave their favorite ice cream flavors (I can't remember what I even said, I know green tea was on the list!) and sent their partner a package with a handmade pencil case and other ice cream ... Sometimes I Swirl
I'm not going to be posting as much in August. I have some exciting projects I'm working on right now, but they are also things I have to keep secret. So for the next month I'm going to be toning back my posting, but I'll be keeping you all updated as much as I can! Today I want to show off the amazing embroideries I got from Sarah Hennessey from Sometimes I Swirl. We swapped work, I sent her two of my cross stitches and she sent me two of her embroidered hoops. I had such a hard time choosing, I knew I wanted one of her mandalas, I love all the photos of them ... Read More
A Hexagon Firefly Needlebook
RockIslander organized the bug themed dumpling swap I did and she made her partner an amazing hexagon bee needlebook. I fell in love with it and wanted my own so I proposed a trade of some sort. I am making her the Wee Little Stitches Sherlock cross stitch, and I am the proud owner of my own hexagon needlebook, mine is a firefly. The cross stitch is taking a lot longer than I expected, but I loved swapping for something I could not have made myself. Do you ever trade your goods or services? Have you gotten anything neat by doing this? ... Read More
Another Dumpling Swap – Bee Edition
Awhile back I participated in a swap of dumpling pouches, I made a hexagon rainbow pouch. I signed up for another swap, this one was bug themed. I loved how the rainbow one turned out but I swore I wasn't going to do hexagons this time, they took so long. As you can see, I changed my mind and did them anyways. I was going to do squares of various bug fabrics but it felt disjointed and just didn't feel right. Josh suggested instead of using bug fabrics to use the design to show the theme. My partner raised bees as a child, so making it bee themed wasn't a hard ... Read More
A Cross Stitch by Mr. X Stitch Himself!
A few months back I participated in the Bestiary swap over on Weave, the social media site run by Mr. X Stitch. It was a bit late but I finally got my piece and I couldn't be more thrilled! I was paired with Mr. X Stitch himself, Jamie Chalmers. He sent me this amazing black on black cross stitched cat. I love it, the cat is so subtle but the eyes are so intense. I also love that there was a postcard with fabric from Bridgeen! And I can't wait to put that pin on my stitching bag! ... Read More
&Stitches Swap – What I Got!
I am not a huge fan of Chicago. I love that I live close enough to go to events there, but I hate traveling there. And so when I was emailing Carina about the swap and places, I made sure to give her other options. For our honeymoon Josh and I flew to San Francisco and then drove down to LA. We loved San Francisco and have visited one other time since then. So while I left it open if Carina wanted to go in a completely different direction, I did suggest SF as an option for the swap piece. Carina went above and beyond and created this amazing piece of the Golden ... Read More
&Stitches Swap – What I Sent!
When I signed up for the &Stitches swap, I had no idea what I would do. The theme was "places" and I wasn't sure about doing a cross stitch of a specific location, I like to keep things more simple and stylized. I was thrilled to be paired up with Carina and she told me some places she likes, but none of them were really standing out to me. She had mentioned before that she was extremely interested in space and liked the alphabet I am working on. I decided that space counts for the theme and made a solar system pattern. I already have one pattern but I wanted to do ... Read More
