A Stitch a Day – 365 Project

I've been debating a 365 project but I couldn't find one I felt I could commit to. Becky at the Pink Samurai did an awesome project for 2013 where she drew her outfit everyday. She wrote a guide about choosing a 365 project but nothing was striking me. I thought about doing a sky blanket or a mood blanket, but I doubted my ability to follow through with it. So when I saw Susi from Lilla Luise Instagram photo about her stitch-a-day project, I was on board! The goal is simple, a single stitch every day. I couldn't decide between doing cross stitch or doing an ... Read More

Amuse-Bouche Swap

I signed up for the December Phat Quarter swap despite being completely swamped with Christmas crafting. And in typical fashion, I signed up without any ideas at all of what I would do. According to the swap page: What is an amuse-bouche? It’s a scrumptious little hors d’oeuvre. A stand-alone treat for your taste buds. Literally, one could translate it from the French as a “mouth amusement.” In our stitchy case, let’s define it as a tiny visual (rather than a taste) treat. Josh suggested that the laser cut pendants fit the description quite well, so I ... Read More

Try it Tuesday – Sharpie Mug

I mentioned that this year I put Evie to work making Christmas gifts. One of the things she made was a Sharpie mug, which I've seen floating around Pinterest for months now. There are so many different tutorials, but they are all pretty standard, here's a good one from Somewhat Simple. A Beautiful Mess has a cute version too. This was actually a recent Try it Tuesday project over at Trends with Benefits, the Try it Tuesday pioneers! We went to Michael's and she picked out pink, purple, and blue Sharpies for this mug for her grandpa. They aren't the most manly ... Read More

Handmade Christmas – Embroidered Arrow

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas. Now that I've given all my gifts, I can finally start showing these off! I started making Christmas gifts back in November, so it's been a long time for me to keep these secret! I also had Evie making presents, so I'll show those off too! First up is this embroidered arrow I made. I haven't done all that much embroidery, but I am really interested in doing more. This was for Josh's aunt and uncle, his uncle has really gotten into archery over the past few years. I love how the arrow turned out, especially the fletching. I ... Read More

Merry Christmas!

I hope you all have an amazing Christmas! This is our first Christmas as a family of four, and I couldn't be happier! Evie is at such a fun age and is so excited about everything, it just makes Christmas so much more exciting for me seeing her reaction to everything. We've all been battling illness the past few weeks, but we have managed to do a lot of fun Christmas stuff. We went to breakfast with Santa, baked Christmas cookies, driven through several local light festivals and saw Santa again there. And there's been lots and lots of Christmas present making! We did ... Read More

2014 Goals

I've been thinking about goals for 2014 for awhile now, and Nicole from Mercantile 519 made a post of hers, so I decided to make mine public too. Acquire all 454 DMC thread colors I mentioned this goal in a recent blog post. I'm currently cataloging all of the colors I have so I can get the colors I'm missing. Do at least one craft show and one art show I did a craft show last year, that's actually what gave me the push to get my Etsy shop going and get my site up. But unfortunately the show itself was small and not well attended. This year I'd really like to do ... Read More

Michaels – Create Squares, Warm Lives

I was heading back to the embroidery floss area in my local Michaels when this sign caught my eye. There is a bin with 7 inch x 9 inch rectangles that people have made for Warm Up America.Next week after Christmas is over, I plan on grabbing some yarn and getting to work making some squares. Last year I got The Knitting Book and I've pinned a ton of different crochet stitches I've wanted to play around with. This seems like a perfect opportunity to experiment and learn some new knit and crochet stitches while also helping out a great cause! Has anyone made any ... Read More
