Coco Flower Wreath – One Thimble Issue 8 Giftables

Ok, I cheated a little bit with this. The whole idea of this blog hop was to make something that you would then gift to someone else, but I am selfishly keeping this wreath all for myself. There are a ton of amazing patterns in One Thimble Issue 8* and I had a really hard time choosing just one. Hopefully I'll be doing a few more of them soon! I tried out the Coco Flower Crown pattern* from Molly and Mama and it's absolutely gorgeous! (She made my cactus hexie wall art and I LOVE how it looks. Check it out here. The Coco Flower pattern is fantastic, there are ... Read More

A Little Birthday Gift Sewing

Friday was Evie's fifth birthday and we had an incredible weekend of celebrations. My cousin has the same birthday and sent Evie a super awesome birthday package and I decided it was time to make a little something for her. I have been sewing a lot more lately but haven't tackled a zipper in awhile. I've been wanting to try making zipper tabs because I knew it looks cleaner, and I also wanted to make a boxy pouch that can stand. I attempted one of these a few months ago and failed spectacularly, so I was a bit nervous. I used this tutorial from Jedi Craft ... Read More

A Stitchy Baby Gift

I really love making handmade gifts, especially when I can add a personal touch that you couldn't get from something store bought. Some friends work at Disney and announced their pregnancy with an adorable video that featured a Mickey ears hat with the due date. I saw the video and immediately knew I wanted to make them something with the ears and the baby's name. They started posting photos of her nursery which was painted with hot air balloons. I drew up a design that included them and used the nursery color scheme. Projects like this always remind me how ... Read More

September TSNEM – Quilting with a Walking Foot

I originally planned on trying two new things this month - using my walking foot and binding. I got so caught up with how much I loved the walking foot that I didn't even get to the binding. Instead I've just been quilting everything I can get my hands on. One of the things that pushed me to get the Janome Magnolia 7360* instead of the next model down was that the 7360 came with a walking foot. But it took months of actually having the walking foot before I finally got up the nerve to use it. When I took the class on the machine at the quilt shop I bought it at, ... Read More

Free Pattern Friday – Bethlehem Star Quilt Block

I've always loved the look of this block and have seen it called both a Bethlehem Star and the Swoon block. It's on my list of quilt blocks I want to make, but until I finally do it, I'll have to settle for this cross stitch pattern version. Between this and my Alternating Stars pattern, I really want to make a huge cross stitch quilt sampler so you can expect more of these! When stitched on 14ct Aida the block will be 5″ square. Download the PDF here – Free Pattern Friday - September 2015 There are more free patterns to download here, and patterns to ... Read More

Deluxe Pincushions!

I've seen pictures of Deluxe Pincushions floating around Instagram and I fell in love. The project comes from the book Sew Organized for the Busy Girl* and I just love all the ways it can be customized. I made my first one as a gift for a friend on Instagram. I haven't done much patchwork but the tiny squares are so easy to match up and kind of sent me into a spiral of wanting to do tiny patchwork squares on everything. I had this piece of camera fabric that I've been saving and figured this was the perfect project to showcase a piece of fabric. Due to some ... Read More

A New Look!

My husband originally designed my website and has been talking for awhile about changing it up and it's officially ready! I really love the new look and there's some other little changes. I've been toying with the idea of changing up my tagline for awhile. It was "Modern Cross Stitcheries" but I've been feeling like that just isn't enough to describe me anymore. I have been doing so much more than that lately. I have spent far more time with my sewing machine or embroidering lately than I have been cross stitching. I kept obsessing over coming up with something new and ... Read More

Hexagon Bee Pouch

Ever since I tried foundation paper piecing I've been itching to do more. There are so many amazing patterns out there, Swoodson Says has a great post with free patterns if you're looking for one to try out! I had made this bee, the pattern is free from badskirt, and I wasn't sure what the final plan was for it. I had this crazy idea to make it into a hexagon pouch and it was mildly successful but I found some serious problems along the way. I probably should have done a prototype first using something that wasn't time consuming like paper piecing, but what fun is ... Read More
