A Little Christmas Tree Quilting with Free Pattern

I made this little English paper pieced Christmas tree and had intended on making it into a wall hanging before posting it. However, it's becoming glaringly obvious that with the Christmas presents I'm working to finish up, that isn't going to happen in time for Christmas. So I figured I'd show off my work in progress. I'm planning on 2015 being the year I make a triangle quilt so I wanted to do a little test project before I dive in. The tree went pretty quickly and I love how it looks. I've never actually done any quilting before and I'm not entirely sure ... Read More

Board Game Review: Robot Turtles

I wanted to make sure to get this review posted before Christmas in case anyone needs a last minute gift idea. I have been singing this game's praises, I know of at least three lucky children who will be opening their own copy of Robot Turtles on Christmas morning because I won't shut up about it. Robot Turtles is the most backed board game in Kickstarter history, it raised over $630,000. It boasts that it introduces basic coding concepts to preschoolers as young as 3. The basic gameplay is simple and easy to pick up with additional elements that can be ... Read More

Embroidery Floss Ornaments

I have two big mason jars full of embroidery thread, this is the one from last year and I'm keeping one this year as well. I was doing monthly posts about my ORT jars but that kind of fell by the wayside, though I am still filling mine up. I've been wanting to do something with the threads so I've been keeping these jars around. I got some fillable plastic ornaments from Michael's. There are also glass ones available and I actually think they might be cheaper, but Mira tends to take ornaments off the tree so I wanted to stick with plastic. You can get them on ... Read More

Book Review – Present Perfect

I first found out about Betz White from the While She Naps podcast and I began following her blog and her work is amazing. She is so incredibly multitalented and her new book Present Perfect does a great job displaying all her different skills into a series of projects. The projects in Present Perfect 25 Gifts to Sew & Bestow are a bit more complicated so Betz White suggests starting off as a "confident beginner." There are 25 really great and well laid out projects in the book, but don't get it if you're looking for a resource on how to sew. You should definitely ... Read More

FlowerPOW Mug Rug Gift Set

I wanted to show off a little gift set I put together using CraftyPod's FlowerPOW mug rug pattern! I've discussed my love for these mug rugs in the past, which is evident by the fact that I've made 6 so far... I put together a little gift set with a coffee cozy that I made using the same fabrics as the mug rug. I used this great free tutorial from Skip to My Lou. I'm not a super confident machine sewer but it was really easy to follow and came together really quickly. I added one of those cool reusable Starbucks mugs they have at the counter and ended up with a ... Read More

Another Trip to Renegade!

On Saturday we went to the Chicago Renegade December Market, I think this was the fourth year we've gone. This year there was a venue change to the Bridgeport Art Center, I was not a fan. The building is gorgeous and I'm sure it's great for other events, but Renegade has such huge crowd that it was just too much for the building. The vendors were all on the 5th floor and you had to take an elevator to get up there, so we had to wait outside in the cold for the elevator to take groups up. I also didn't feel like there was a good flow for walking through the event. ... Read More
