Months and months ago I bought this tiny embroidery hoop from Dandelyne on Etsy. I was really excited but like so many other times I buy cool things, I get nervous to use them. I feel like I'm not going to come up with a good enough project to do them justice. I finally decided I just needed to stitch something up for this hoop so I can make it into a necklace. I stitched up a couple possible designs and I can't decide. I've ruled out the spider, (though Evie requested I make it into a necklace for her) so it's between the bird and the flower. I'm leaning towards ... Read More
&Stitches Swap – What I Sent!
When I signed up for the &Stitches swap, I had no idea what I would do. The theme was "places" and I wasn't sure about doing a cross stitch of a specific location, I like to keep things more simple and stylized. I was thrilled to be paired up with Carina and she told me some places she likes, but none of them were really standing out to me. She had mentioned before that she was extremely interested in space and liked the alphabet I am working on. I decided that space counts for the theme and made a solar system pattern. I already have one pattern but I wanted to do ... Read More
Now on Storenvy and a Coupon Code!
I've been wanting to start a shop at Storenvy for awhile now but haven't had the motivation to do it. A bunch of people I follow on Twitter use Storenvy and there seems to be a really great community around it. When I was writing my blog hop post on Monday I mentioned that I was working on getting motivated to open this shop up. I stopped writing and made an account right then. I've been adding my patterns there and I'm really pleased with it so far! I know there's a lot of features I'm not taking advantage of, but I definitely plan on playing with it more. Now, ... Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!
This past weekend, Jen from 52 lasers did the Craftstraganza show in St. Paul, MN. It looks like an extremely fun show! Since this was the first time she was selling her needle minders, I had the idea to make a hoop to display them. I was going to get fancy with colors but decided to keep it simple so it didn't distract from the needle minders. I used a gray for the font (which I matched to the same font as her Isette branding) and then a lighter gray for the design under the text. I made the design loosely based on a necklace of hers. If you haven't gotten a ... Read More
Artbar Geek Show and a New Pattern
So while my space cross stitches were on display in Bedford, England, almost 4,000 miles away in Aurora, Illinois I had my work in another show. There is a monthly art show at the Two Brothers Roundhouse. The first Friday of the month there is an Artbar show with a different theme, this month was the Geek Show. I was hoping to create three new pieces, but time was just not on my side. I displayed my periodic table cross stitch and I made a pattern for a 20 sided die. I love how the design looks, but I think if I made it smaller I probably could have finished two ... Read More
Bedpop Show
Jamie Chalmers from Mr. X Stitch curated a show in Bedford England and I am so excited to have four pieces in it! One of my 2014 goals was to display my work in an art show, and this week I'll be in two! My mother-in-law, Kathie Webb, also has some embroideries in the show from her collection Verbal. I really wish I could go check out this show myself, it looks amazing. All of the pictures that Jamie has posted on Facebook are great, there are so many talented stitchers on display and I'm honored to be apart of it! I'm finishing up my projects for a ... Read More
Quilty Stitches Update
I had gotten a bit behind on the Quilty Stitches sampler so I set out to get caught up over the weekend. Part of why I hadn't worked on it in awhile was because of the barn square. I adore the quilt block patterns for this sampler, but the barn just didn't feel right for me. My friend Jessica suggested doing a log cabin design and I thought it was a great solution. I've been unsure about my color choices for some of the blocks. But seeing them all together as a group, I'm pretty happy with the direction this is going. It's not too late to start the Quilty ... Alcohol Inked Cross Stitching!
I posted on last week's WIP Wednesday post that I had done more with the alcohol ink from the Darby Smart coaster kit. After the acrylic had ink on it, Jen sealed them (you can read more about the saga it took to get this right) and she put the colorful acrylic under the laser. I am smitten with the way these turned out and I can't wait to stitch them all up. I love the uniqueness of each of them, they are all one of a kind. I plan on making these little triangles into necklaces. The clear acrylic looks especially striking, and I love the etching that was ... Read More
