2014 Goals

I've been thinking about goals for 2014 for awhile now, and Nicole from Mercantile 519 made a post of hers, so I decided to make mine public too. Acquire all 454 DMC thread colors I mentioned this goal in a recent blog post. I'm currently cataloging all of the colors I have so I can get the colors I'm missing. Do at least one craft show and one art show I did a craft show last year, that's actually what gave me the push to get my Etsy shop going and get my site up. But unfortunately the show itself was small and not well attended. This year I'd really like to do ... Read More

Hexagon Cross Stitch Ornament!

I'm kind of hexagon obsessed right now. I made a few English paper piecing hexagons recently and now I want to make all the hexagons! When we were cutting out ornaments the other week, I remembered that Evie has some Play-Doh cutters in different shapes. I dug them out and was delighted to find a hexagon. Unfortunately, most of the ones I made and intended on painting got cracked. However, I made one hexagon that I poked holes in for cross stitching, and that one came out unscathed. It could use a little sanding on the edges, but otherwise I think it's pretty ... Read More

Project Indecisiveness

I am very indecisive and I second guess myself with projects. I have a hard time deciding on a project to make and then obsess because I'm convinced I chose the wrong color and ruined it forever. I mentioned before how I had an iPhone 4 cross stitch case for years because I couldn't decide what to do with it, so I immediately stitched up the iPhone 5 case to avoid a repeat of that. Josh bought me this awesome LED stitching kit months and months ago, before Mira was even born, and it's in danger of becoming another iPhone 4 case. I really want to do something ... Read More

I Started Another Blanket

Despite the fact that I have a pile of 121 sunburst granny squares that need to be joined for Evie's blanket, I started a new one. I have been really wanting to work with yarn, but sewing together squares was not what I had in mind. I was at Hobby Lobby and their I Love This Cotton was on sale so I grabbed a skein of this lovely light grey. I had these other colors left over from Evie's blanket and another project I never actually did. I have seen a ton of different blankets I love and have considered making, but I went simple and started a giant granny square ... Read More

Blackwork in Purple – Purplework!

I feel like I've been so productive lately, but I've been making Christmas presents so I can't show them off. But I wanted to show a sneak peak of my current project. Over at &Stitches, they declared November the month of color. They gave the challenge to create a blackwork piece, in color. I had seen blackwork before, and while I found it impressive, I was never really interested in doing it myself. Changing the black thread to a color makes such a big difference, it feels so much more fun and modern. Teresa from Daisies for Violet made an incredible color ... Read More

Making Hexagons!

I've been wanting to try out English paper piecing to make hexagons for awhile. I always see pictures on Instagram of hexagon quilting projects and I wanted to get in on it! I've seen plenty of free templates for hexagons, but I just spent a couple dollars and picked up a pack of precut hexagons. I knew that I would never get around to making these if I had to cut out my own paper hexagons. I used this terrific tutorial from the Zen of Making to learn the process. I have a big box of scrap fabric and I dug through and prepped a handful of hexagons. I made these ... Read More

DIY Christmas Terrarium

We don't have a lot of Christmas decorations besides ornaments and stockings. Every year I hope to remedy that, but I never really make the things I hope to. I'm determined to change that this year! I saw this tutorial on Pinterest to make a sea salt terrarium and it seemed like a great place to start. I used Crayola Model Magic instead of polymer clay. I bought the clay and intended on using it, but when I realized how small my trees were, it just seemed easier to use an air drying clay and paint it. I put a bit of wire into the bottom of the trees to help them ... Read More
