Super Easy Handmade Costumes

Please Note: This post contains affiliate links that are indicated by an asterisk*. My children are extremely indecisive about Halloween costumes. They both cycled through a ton of costume options before finally settling on them. Mira wanted to be a Care Bear and Evie wanted to be Link. I immediately knew how I was going to do the Care Bear costume, I got a plain pink hoodie and made a felt circle to attach to it. I couldn't find a hoodie that didn't have a zipper, so I got it a couple sizes too big so I could more easily slip it over her head. I also anticipate ... Read More

Batman Mini Quilt

Josh's birthday was this week and I successfully managed to make him a present without him knowing. I bought the pattern from the Crafty Geeks for the Batman EPP block in December of last year but only just got around to making it. I got the pattern after seeing the version that Jessee from Art School Dropout made. I loved the blacks and grays she used and I wanted mine to have a similar feel. I spent a really long time with the fabric selection but I really love how it turned out. This was also one of my first attempts at binding, but you'll hear more about ... Read More

Sewing a Laser Cut Bag

All the way back in June, Jennifer from 52 Lasers did a post on laser cutting fabric. I made a little coffee cozy but put aside the pieces she cut for the Noodlehead 241 tote. This was a combination of being too busy at the time to make it, but I was also really nervous about the project. I was using nice Cotton + Steel fabric I got my from local quilt store and the pattern was daunting. For some reason this last weekend I was struck with some sudden bravery (or an attempt to procrastinate and avoid other projects I should have been working on) and I decided to ... Read More

Laser Cut Appliques

Weeks ago I talked with Jennifer from 52 Lasers about the possibility of making laser cut appliqués. I ironed some Heat'n Bond* onto a dark gray Kona cotton and dropped it off with her. And then I promptly forgot about it. She recently brought it up again and asked if I would want to make something with the appliqués she cut. Jennifer left me with a narwhal, a whale, a unicorn, and a cloud. I knew right away that I wanted to pair one of the whales with this mermaid fabric I got years ago from Joann's and have been holding onto. I've also been eying the Cosmos ... Read More

Splatoon! Custom Spoonflower Plushes

Josh and I used to play a lot of video games together, I used to work at a video game store in high school. But when I started doing more crafting, video games got put aside in favor of watching more tv shows because I could stitch at the same time. So Josh was extremely excited when Evie started showing more of an interest in playing video games with him (and she's getting pretty good!) For her birthday he wanted to make her some plush squids from the game Splatoon*. Josh designed these two squid plush to get printed on Spoonflower fabric. We couldn't decide ... Read More

Coco Flower Wreath – One Thimble Issue 8 Giftables

Ok, I cheated a little bit with this. The whole idea of this blog hop was to make something that you would then gift to someone else, but I am selfishly keeping this wreath all for myself. There are a ton of amazing patterns in One Thimble Issue 8* and I had a really hard time choosing just one. Hopefully I'll be doing a few more of them soon! I tried out the Coco Flower Crown pattern* from Molly and Mama and it's absolutely gorgeous! (She made my cactus hexie wall art and I LOVE how it looks. Check it out here. The Coco Flower pattern is fantastic, there are ... Read More

A Little Birthday Gift Sewing

Friday was Evie's fifth birthday and we had an incredible weekend of celebrations. My cousin has the same birthday and sent Evie a super awesome birthday package and I decided it was time to make a little something for her. I have been sewing a lot more lately but haven't tackled a zipper in awhile. I've been wanting to try making zipper tabs because I knew it looks cleaner, and I also wanted to make a boxy pouch that can stand. I attempted one of these a few months ago and failed spectacularly, so I was a bit nervous. I used this tutorial from Jedi Craft ... Read More

September TSNEM – Quilting with a Walking Foot

I originally planned on trying two new things this month - using my walking foot and binding. I got so caught up with how much I loved the walking foot that I didn't even get to the binding. Instead I've just been quilting everything I can get my hands on. One of the things that pushed me to get the Janome Magnolia 7360* instead of the next model down was that the 7360 came with a walking foot. But it took months of actually having the walking foot before I finally got up the nerve to use it. When I took the class on the machine at the quilt shop I bought it at, ... Read More
