Evie's best friend Amelia is moving to Seattle today. They have been friends practically since birth and seeing them play together is the sweetest. Evie constantly asks me if we'll be seeing Amelia when we go out. And while I'm really sad for Evie losing her friend, I'm sad for myself as well! Amelia's mom has become a good friend of mine and it works out so well that our girls love each other so much! Their friendship has been such a big part of Evie's life and I really wanted to make some special gifts for Amelia to remember Evie by. I knew I wanted to make a ... Read More
Starting Christmas Gifts
I really love making Christmas gifts but I'm not great with time management. Last year I was finishing up a project on Christmas Eve and this year I am determined to avoid that. So in a completely uncharacteristic move, I've started Christmas gifts already. I haven't sat down and made a complete list of what I want to make, but I have started a couple things and that's a huge step for me. Have you started thinking about Christmas gifts? How early do you start planning? ... Read More
A Floral Felt Scissor Holder
I got these absolutely ADORABLE bear scissors from the Missouri Quilt Co, I was placing an order and couldn't resist getting a few pairs. The only problem was they didn't have any sort of case. So when I saw this tutorial from Feeling Stitchy on making a felt scissor case, I set to work. I freehanded the embroidery, I didn't draw anything onto the felt before I began. I worked on it during a car ride going to visit my parents and I was able to finish it on the hour and a half trip. Now to make sleeves for the bunny scissors I got too! ... Read More
Artsy Adopt Swap
Instagram is a dangerous place for me, I just can't help but sign up for these swaps I see there! I keep saying I'm done with them and then I see another that I just can't resist! This most recent one was organized by Paige from Artsy Anthropology as a fundraiser for three families who are adopting. One of the families was a woman I follow on Instagram, LeftyLex. She is selling embroidered necklaces and hoops to raise money for their adoption of an adorable little boy named Kai. There was a fee to participate which was split among the families. My partner ... CraftingCon – Princess Headbands and a Giveaway!
CraftingCon is the brainchild of Friends Stitched Together and Mae&K, it's a monthly sewing competition. Each month has a different theme and there are competitors who are sewing projects based on the theme. This month is Disney Princesses. I absolutely love this idea but unfortunately my sewing skills are not strong enough to create something of the caliber that people have been making. Seriously, check out this adorable summer Snow White dress from That's Sew Kari! This is Emilee, the namesake of Bowtique Emilee, modeling the Pocahontas headband. But I do have a ... Read More
Twinery and Ruby Rock-It Blog Hop!
Today is the last day of the Twinery and Ruby Rock-It blog hop! You should have gotten here from Denise Hahn If you're new, I would love for you to like my Facebook page and follow on Bloglovin'! I was sent the Oriental Chic collection and my first idea to make origami paper cranes was a bust. The card stock was to thick to easily be able to use for origami. So I decided this was a good time to pull out my new Silhouette Cameo! I remembered a post from Jesse at Art School Dropout where she made a paper planter. I bought the same file she used and ... An EPP Hexagon Shortcut
I'm not exactly sure where I saw this idea, I think it was from someone in a Facebook group. But I just love it so much and had to share it. When I baste my hexagons I use the method of little stitches at each corner, the same one Haley from The Zen of Making uses.. I used to finish the hexagon and then cut the thread. But here's the crazy trick... After you're done just keep basting the next one! Instead of cutting the thread, just insert the needle into the next hexagon and start basting. Just leave a little space in between the two and baste as you ... Read More
Creativity Expressed
When I started this blog it was meant as a place to showcase my cross stitches, but over the last year and a half it's really evolved. I feel like my tagline "modern cross stitcheries" has become out of date because I have been doing so much more. I have been doing a lot of embroidery and this year I started my enormous, ongoing English paper pieced hexagon quilt. Jen from Lovely Messes asked me to take part in her Creativity Expressed blog series and talk about my hexagons. It's been an interesting process for me. I have always wanted to make a quilt but I don't ... Read More
