Hexagon Cuff Bracelet – 12 Hexies Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the next stop on the 12 hexies (or less) blog hop. I was so excited when Diane from CraftyPod told me the idea for this blog hop. I have been working on an EPP quilt since the beginning of the year and it is a very, very labor intensive project. So the idea of smaller, more manageable projects is extremely appealing, I put together this cuff in a few hours. What you'll need: .5" hexagons Scraps of fabric Felt strip 1.5" wide Button Thin elastic Fabric glue Needle and thread Embroidery floss Assemble some hexagons with your paper ... Read More

Completed! Sherlock Cross Stitch

I finally finished the Sherlock cross stitch using the Wee Little Stitches pattern. This is actually the first time I've ever done a project from someone else's pattern. I started the Quilty Stitchalong but haven't finished it. It was interesting working from someone else's pattern, this was also the first time I've ever done back stitching. I was so ready to be done with the project that I wanted to skip it, but I'll admit that it does add a nice finished quality. This took a lot longer than I expected, but I'm really pleased with the outcome. Now to get this ... Read More

Did You Know I’m an Illustrator?

Originally I titled this "did you know I used to be an illustrator" but went back and changed it. I got my BFA in illustration from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design but I don't draw much lately, but I guess I still consider myself an illustrator even though I do a lot more than that now. When I was in school I really wanted to work as an animator or illustrate children's books, but after graduation I went the more safe route of getting a graphic design job. The job actually gave me quite a few opportunities to illustrate, my very first project was an HVACR ... Read More

All the DMC Threads!

When I was putting together my 2014 goals list, I got this crazy idea in my head that I should own all 454 DMC thread colors. I found it really interesting to inventory what I had. Apparently I kept buying a lot of the same colors over and over, there were a lot I had 5 or 6 bobbins of. I made a list of what I needed and slowly started acquiring them as I was doing my normal craft shopping. Apparently I had an aversion to darker greens and browns, there were a lot of those I needed. But I was surprised I was missing a lot of pinks too. When Joann's had their 3/$.99 ... Read More

A Hexagon Firefly Needlebook

RockIslander organized the bug themed dumpling swap I did and she made her partner an amazing hexagon bee needlebook. I fell in love with it and wanted my own so I proposed a trade of some sort. I am making her the Wee Little Stitches Sherlock cross stitch, and I am the proud owner of my own hexagon needlebook, mine is a firefly. The cross stitch is taking a lot longer than I expected, but I loved swapping for something I could not have made myself. Do you ever trade your goods or services? Have you gotten anything neat by doing this? ... Read More

Cross Stitched Name Hoops!

When I was pregnant with Evie I started posting on the September 2010 birth forums at TheBump and "met" a lot of other soon to be new moms. When our babies were all born we migrated to a Facebook group and almost four years later we are all still close. Ruth was one of the moms I met on TheBump and I actually got the chance to meet her in person. Her son Elijah is the same age as Evie and her daughter Ani is a little older than Mira. I have been meaning to send them a package full of handmade goodies for months but only got around to it last week. I've had the ... Read More

Lots of Exciting Things Happening!

I got a comment on my Facebook page from Pam, moderator for Craftster, writer for Feeling Stitchy, CraftGossip, about.com, and all around swell lass. She let me know what I was added to the list of about.com Modern Cross Stitch Designers! I was floored and absolutely thrilled! And shortly after I found this out I got an email that two separate projects had been accepted to CraftGawker! I've submitted projects to them in the past and they've been rejected, so this was beyond exciting! You can see both my felt bunny embroidery hoop and my dandelion puff embroidery. ... Read More

A Muddy Craft Day!

Chrissy from Muse of the Morning is doing a week of Big Messy Art and it seemed like a really fun idea! Summer is the perfect time to get messy with crafts because you can head outside and when you're done, just hose off. We had a mud painting playdate with Evie's best friend. We went over to her house with a bucket, a bag of soil, and a bunch of different homemade paintbrushes. I made one with yarn, one with pipe cleaners, one with a giant pom pom, and two different ones with foam. I bought a bag of potting soil from Dollar Tree, you could easily use dirt in your ...
