The Imperfect Hexagon Bag

I've been plowing away at making hexagons, I had over 1,100 at my last count, but I wanted to do a smaller hexagon project that I could quickly finish. I made a mini rainbow of 3/4" hexagons and attached them together. I bought this canvas bag with the intention of cross stitching on it, but I couldn't resist sewing on hexagons instead. First I glued them on with Aleen's fabric fusion glue and then blind stitched them to the bag. I got a little over zealous with the glue and it got around the edges of the fabric. And there are a few areas where my blind stitch isn't ... Read More

Free Pattern Friday – Lego Movie Unikitty!

The credit for this pattern goes to my husband Josh. He told me he had an idea for a pattern that he was going to make, and it just so happened to coincide with Free Pattern Friday. If you're one of the many, many people who can't stop singing "Everything is Awesome!" you will definitely appreciate this adorable Unikitty cross stitch pattern! Josh and I got to see the Lego Movie together on Valentine's Day and we both absolutely loved it. You just can't resist Unikitty, she's so adorable and such a terrific character! I haven't started this one yet, but ... Read More

Regional Candy Swap!

Heidi over at My Paper Crane organized a really fun candy swap. Everyone got a partner from another geographic area and had the task of buying candy specific to where you live. My partner was Lesley in Pennsylvania, you can find her design site here. Of course the first thing that came to mind for me was Ferrara Pan, we pass the factory when we drive into Chicago. They are best known for Lemonheads but there are many variations and other candies as well. I went to a little candy store in downtown Naperville and bought all the boxes of Ferrara Pan candy they had. ... Read More

WIP Wednesday – Hexagon Update

I have so many things up in the air right now, my WIP pile is kind of out of control. I have four hexagon projects right now. The first is the blanket I've been working on, then there's Wild Olive's spring stitching club, and two secret projects. I have officially crossed the halfway mark, I have 991. And I think it's about time for me to switch to a new page in the book and I'm also going to need a new box soon! I used to grab a couple skeins of embroidery floss every time I went to the craft store, now I get a couple 1/8 yards of fabric. Hobby Lobby always ... Read More

Stitch A Day – February Update

It's been awhile since I showed off my stitch a day project. I have a confession, I have had to play catch up a couple times. It's been harder than I expected to keep up with doing a stitch a day. Despite the back being a mess, I am in love with how it looks. I actually think I like it better than the front. My first row annoys me because the stitches are kind of crazy and so varied, but I guess that's part of the charm. It shows off the learning experience. Read more about my 365 project here. Did anyone else commit to a 365 project? Have you been keeping up ... Read More

TUSAL #2

The check in date was technically Saturday, but I'm a little late. I've been keeping a couple different ORT jars, I guess one is technically ORF, old ratty fabric. I have so many tiny bits of fabric from the hexagons and I can't bring myself to toss them all. I plan on stuffing a plush or something with them eventually. Read more about the TUSAL here. ... Embroidered Shoes!

I bought myself a pair of shoes months ago with the intention of stitching on them, but like so many of my projects I just couldn't decide what to do. So I decided to get a pair of shoes for Evie and stitch those to get myself inspired. I used a water soluble marker and drew some designs on them. I made it up as I went along, and once I did the first shoe I just copied it onto the second. I picked a colorful pallet, I wasn't going to limit myself! These shoes are for a 3 year old so they should be bright and fun! Now, I learned a few important things that I ... Read More
