Sewing a Laser Cut Bag

All the way back in June, Jennifer from 52 Lasers did a post on laser cutting fabric. I made a little coffee cozy but put aside the pieces she cut for the Noodlehead 241 tote. This was a combination of being too busy at the time to make it, but I was also really nervous about the project. I was using nice Cotton + Steel fabric I got my from local quilt store and the pattern was daunting. For some reason this last weekend I was struck with some sudden bravery (or an attempt to procrastinate and avoid other projects I should have been working on) and I decided to ... Read More

Embroidered and Fabric Color Wheels

It's no secret I love rainbows and color wheels. The big French knot color wheel is still one of my favorite projects I've ever made. I made a smaller version last year but never really took good pictures of it and then I sold it. So I decided I should make a new one that I would actually keep for myself, which so rarely happens. It looks so involved but I stitched it up in just a couple nights of binge watching Parks and Recreation. It's in a Dandelyne hoop necklace and I absolutely love it. And while I was on the whole color wheel kick, I got the idea to make ... Read More

Laser Cut Appliques

Weeks ago I talked with Jennifer from 52 Lasers about the possibility of making laser cut appliqués. I ironed some Heat'n Bond* onto a dark gray Kona cotton and dropped it off with her. And then I promptly forgot about it. She recently brought it up again and asked if I would want to make something with the appliqués she cut. Jennifer left me with a narwhal, a whale, a unicorn, and a cloud. I knew right away that I wanted to pair one of the whales with this mermaid fabric I got years ago from Joann's and have been holding onto. I've also been eying the Cosmos ... Read More

October TSNEM – Stumpwork Embroidery

I was looking through my list of things I've tried this year and I'm pretty pleased. Generally I've learned a lot of great new things and there have only been a few I haven't really loved doing. Unfortunately, this month was one of those. I tried out stumpwork embroidery for a post over at &stitches and just had a really hard time getting into it. As soon as I started looking into stumpwork I got overwhelmed. There are so many different types and techniques and there aren't a huge amount of resources out there. Kristen from Hey Paul Studios has done a lot of ... Read More

Free Pattern Friday – Pumpkin Spice Latte

Fall is by far my favorite season. While I don't have the same obsession many do, I do enjoy pumpkin flavored things and the occasional pumpkin spice latte. And who doesn't love a good coffee related craft? So now you can make your own pumpkin spice latte cross stitch. The finished piece is a little over 4"x5" when done on 14ct Aida and would fit nicely in a 6" hoop. Download the PDF here – Free Pattern Friday - October 2015 There are more free patterns to download here, and patterns to purchase here at my Etsy. If you stitch up one of my patterns, I'd love ... New Cross Stitch Pattern – Periodic Table

It's been over two years since I finished stitching the Periodic Table of Elements, and I kept meaning to get the pattern up in my Etsy shop. I kept putting it off though because somewhere along the way, I lost the original pattern. A super awesome lady in the UK sent me an email in July asking if I would make the pattern available and I got busy and totally put it off. She was amazingly patient and emailed me again asking and I finally got my act together and got it ready. I recreated the pattern from the finished cross stitch, which I don't recommend doing. ... Splatoon! Custom Spoonflower Plushes

Josh and I used to play a lot of video games together, I used to work at a video game store in high school. But when I started doing more crafting, video games got put aside in favor of watching more tv shows because I could stitch at the same time. So Josh was extremely excited when Evie started showing more of an interest in playing video games with him (and she's getting pretty good!) For her birthday he wanted to make her some plush squids from the game Splatoon*. Josh designed these two squid plush to get printed on Spoonflower fabric. We couldn't decide ... Read More

Embroidering an IKEA Canvas

A few weeks ago I went to IKEA and saw this little canvas. I had an urge to stitch it and since it was on sale for $2.99, I grabbed one. It's been awhile since I did any experimental stitching, so I was excited to play around with it. I originally wanted to stitch along all the lines, but the way the wood of the frame is, there is a row around the edge that is inaccessible for stitching. So I decided to just stitch some of it and leave the rest blank. I'm constantly on the lookout for random objects to stitch on and this was a fun little project to work on. I ... Read More
