I think I officially have a button addiction! I love how quick they are to stitch up, and they are so cute! I used Kreinik thread and there's a special surprise... It glows in the dark! ... Read More
Review – Electrical Wizard: How Nikola Tesla Lit Up the World
In case you haven't picked up on it yet, I love Nikola Tesla. In fact, Evie's middle name is Tesla. I really want her to know more about the remarkable man who we named her after, and "Electrical Wizard: How Nikola Tesla Lit Up the World" is a great way to start teaching her and I was thrilled to get a chance to review it. This book was written by Elizabeth Rusch and illustrated by Oliver Dominguez. The book begins by describing Tesla's childhood and different ways in which he experimented and explored electricity from and early age. One of the big things stressed ... Read More
A Raccoon Button!
I made another button! I'm still not sure what my plan for these is, but I was playing around with some graph paper the other day and drew this guy. It was slightly too big for the buttons I got for the flower I made, so I got the next size up. I also picked up a pack of smaller ones. I just want to make a ton of buttons, I think they are adorable. Plus if I make enough, maybe I'll eventually think of something to do with them. ... Read More
They Might Be Cross Stitch
I got an email from They Might Be Giants last week and my first thought was "I could cross stitch that!." It seemed so nice of them to send me a pattern so I got to work. Josh and I are both big They Might Be Giants fans, so big in fact that we have been members of their Instant Fan Club for the past two years. We've seen them in concert three times, most recently when I was 8 months pregnant with Mira. Evie has also inherited our love for the band and frequently asks to listen to their music. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. I was hoping to make two little ... Read More
Hugs are Fun Around the Interwebs
So remember the flash cards I made for the &stitches contest? I won! You can read more about it on their site, and you can see all the entries here. The flash cards were also a featured project on Craftster last week! I am so excited to see that other people like these as much as I do! I really want to start some more but I am currently in the throngs of Christmas projects! My little flower cross stitched button was featured in the Mid-Week Break over on button-button. My work has been included in some of Julie's galleries and it's always a huge honor, and I ... Read More
Introducing Cross Stitch Kits!
Big news! I've been working with Jennifer from Beadeux to develop laser cut cross stitch kits! We've been working for awhile on the laser cut jewelry and a few months ago we started developing these kits. Jennifer had some really great pendant designs and I went to work designing patterns and picking colors. ... Read More
Free Pattern Friday – Tea Love
It's that time again, Free Pattern Friday! I made this pattern a few months ago and have been meaning to post it. I normally design my patterns in Photoshop, but this one I drew out on graph paper. I was in the mood to do a quick, cute, little cross stitch and this fit the bill. It's about 2.25" and fits nicely into a 4" hoop. I am a huge tea fan, lately it's been iced tea, but with the cooler weather I'll start brewing up some hot tea too. So grab a mug and start stitching! Download the PDF here - Free Pattern Friday - November 2013 There are more free ... Read More
A Possible Quilt?
So I keep mentioning my desire to make a quilt. I've never made one before but I am obsessed with looking at quilts on Pinterest and Instagram, and I got Quilting Happiness for my birthday and I'm currently reading a review copy of Modern One-Block Quilts. I think part of my fascination with quilts is that they remind me of large scale cross stitches. A lot of the different quilt squares could easily translate to cross stitches, and some of my geometric cross stitches could be made into a quilt. Well, I pulled out a box of sewing things the other day and came across ... Read More
