WIP Wednesday – Hexagons, Embroidery, and Plastic Canvas

I'm working on a lot of different projects right now and I can't wait to finish them up. In the world of hexagons, I am working on the Wild Olive spring stitching club. I have last week and this week's to do still and I'm a little behind on the hexagons. But I love the colors and the patterns that Mollie has sent out so far! I loved the size of the hexagons for the stitching club, so I decided to make a table runner. I'm really close to finishing, I just have one more row to attach. I think I might finish it with a felt backing but I'm not sure yet. I'm ... Read More

Color Wheel Sampler by Dropcloth

I saw a photo of someone working on a color wheel sampler on Instagram and I immediately went searching for my own. I could see the name on the photo, it came from the Etsy shop Dropcloth. I ordered one and I can't wait to get started! My embroidery skills are pretty limited, I mostly have done back stitches and satin stitches. I know how to do a french knot and scallop stitch, but that's about it. I love the idea of getting to try out all these different stitches while also making a piece of art to hang. I can't wait to get started! Have you gotten anything ... Read More

Stitch A Day – February Update

It's been awhile since I showed off my stitch a day project. I have a confession, I have had to play catch up a couple times. It's been harder than I expected to keep up with doing a stitch a day. Despite the back being a mess, I am in love with how it looks. I actually think I like it better than the front. My first row annoys me because the stitches are kind of crazy and so varied, but I guess that's part of the charm. It shows off the learning experience. Read more about my 365 project here. Did anyone else commit to a 365 project? Have you been keeping up ... Read More

Embroidered Shoes!

I bought myself a pair of shoes months ago with the intention of stitching on them, but like so many of my projects I just couldn't decide what to do. So I decided to get a pair of shoes for Evie and stitch those to get myself inspired. I used a water soluble marker and drew some designs on them. I made it up as I went along, and once I did the first shoe I just copied it onto the second. I picked a colorful pallet, I wasn't going to limit myself! These shoes are for a 3 year old so they should be bright and fun! Now, I learned a few important things that I ... Read More

Wild Olive Spring Stitching Club

This winter has been brutal here in Illinois, it's been so cold and there's been so much snow. I am definitely ready for spring, and the Wild Olive Spring Stitching Club is a good thing to keep me busy until it shows up! I'm still behind on the Winter Stitching Club, I've stitched most of the designs but have only assembled one hexagon. I copied the same fabrics that Mollie used and I am in love with them. They are so bright and pretty, I working with them makes me so happy! The hexagons are bigger than I'm used to working with, but I like them a lot. I think it ... Read More

Pantone Paint Swatch Embroidery

A few weeks ago, Terri from Sew Fantastic posted a photo of some Pantone paint swatches on Instagram. I knew Pantone paint existed, but I had never seen the paint swatches before and I rushed to Lowe's that night to get some. I knew right away that I wanted to stitch on them, but I put them aside because I wasn't sure what I wanted to embroider on them. Then the other night I got a text from Teresa from Daisies for Violet about these handy little things for punching holes in paper. I've seen them at Target but they were more than I wanted to spend for something ... Read More

Book Review – Hand Embroidered Haven

I received a copy of The Hand Embroidered Haven by Megan Frock to review, and I fell in love. One of the first things I look at in any craft book is the tutorial section. I want to see how they've illustrated how to do stitches or any other special skills necessary. To me, this is one of the most important parts of a craft book, great patterns and designs mean nothing if you can't teach the reader how to do them. Megan Frock's basic stitches and techniques section is spot on, it is illustrated really well and is very clear and concise. The book covers hand ... Read More

Felt Valentine Necklace

One of my 2014 goals was to try new crafts. Needle felting was high on that list of ones to try. I got a needle felting kit for Christmas two years ago and I was just so nervous to try it out. I am not the most graceful person and I get hurt a lot. I've been to the ER because of an Xacto knife before, so the idea of me stabbing things with needles seemed like a bad idea. I finally got over my fear and gave it a whirl this past weekend and I loved it, it's so amazing to me to take some wool roving and a needle and end up with a solid object. I needle felted the ...
