My Grandmother’s Sewing Kit

When I would go to my grandmother's house when I was younger, I was always fascinated by this box. I loved the shape and how the lid came off. When my grandmother passed away my mom gave me this box because she knew how much I always loved it. We were cleaning out the garage and it was in a box that we still hadn't unpacked from when we moved in. Inside was full of various vintage sewing supplies, I wish so badly I had taken the time to ask about them all when my grandma was around. I didn't get into crafting until I was older and I missed out on the opportunity to ... Read More

Upcycled Kreinik Bird Feeder

A while back on Twitter, Dena from Kreinik posted asking if anyone had any ideas for how to use these black tubes. https://twitter.com/KreinikGirl/status/443473864291799040 They are used in thread production for dyeing and washing thread and they found boxes in the warehouse that weren't going to be used. My first thought was something for birds, either a bird feeder or using it for yarn scraps for birds to use in nests. So I did both and Evie was very happy to help. For the bird feeder I spread peanut butter all over the tube. I've done this with toilet ... Read More

M Button Monogram

Mira's birthday is quickly approaching (in a week I'll have a one year old!) and I realized I had a project I did months ago but never shared. I had made Evie a button monogram, so I thought it was only fair for Mira to get one too. It's been too long since I've done a monogram project, they've been replaced with hexagons. I'm going to have to remedy that soon! I have a huge jar of buttons left over from when I made Evie's monogram. I used tweezers from the start this time and didn't burn myself as much with the hot glue which is definitely a positive thing! ... Read More

Dandelion Puff Embroidery Pattern

Last year I participated in the Christmas link up that Laura at Bugs and Fishes organized. There were so many fantastic projects and so many different ones! Well she's organized another one, this one is all flower themed and I'm thrilled to take part again! I created a colorful dandelion puff embroidery and I'm sharing the pattern with you! Now this pattern isn't exact, I improvised a lot, but I'm giving you a basic framework to start with. I did the center lines and then worked the French knots in the center and then the outside. The black areas of the pattern ... Read More

Controlled Chaos Quilt Along

Wendi from Shiny Happy World posted about a quilt along and I was immediately on board. A quilt has been on my list of things I want to do for months, and I was always overwhelmed by where to start. There are so many fantastic quilt designs and patterns, but they all seem very intimidating. But the idea of doing one quilt block a week seems much more attainable. I had never used a rotary cutter before, I just cut my hexagon fabric by hand because precision isn't super important. I was pleasantly surprised with the rotary cutter, I got the hang of it and was able to ... Read More

X Stitch – Book Review

The UK seems way ahead of America with needle craft trends. There are so many amazing embroiderers and cross stitchers in the UK and one that I've admired for a long time is Sarah Fordham. I was so excited when she wrote her first book X Stitch, and even more excited when I received a review copy! Sarah shows that cross stitching can be fun and different and doesn't have to be traditional samplers, you can do so much with cross stitch! I love these graph paper drawn images of the different cross stitching supplies. Sarah does a great job adding in her own humor and ... Read More
