Making Hexagons!

I've been wanting to try out English paper piecing to make hexagons for awhile. I always see pictures on Instagram of hexagon quilting projects and I wanted to get in on it! I've seen plenty of free templates for hexagons, but I just spent a couple dollars and picked up a pack of precut hexagons. I knew that I would never get around to making these if I had to cut out my own paper hexagons. I used this terrific tutorial from the Zen of Making to learn the process. I have a big box of scrap fabric and I dug through and prepped a handful of hexagons. I made these ... Read More

DIY Christmas Terrarium

We don't have a lot of Christmas decorations besides ornaments and stockings. Every year I hope to remedy that, but I never really make the things I hope to. I'm determined to change that this year! I saw this tutorial on Pinterest to make a sea salt terrarium and it seemed like a great place to start. I used Crayola Model Magic instead of polymer clay. I bought the clay and intended on using it, but when I realized how small my trees were, it just seemed easier to use an air drying clay and paint it. I put a bit of wire into the bottom of the trees to help them ... Read More

Free Christmas Cross Stitch Pattern!

I had planned on doing a free Christmas pattern eventually, but Laura from Bugs and Fishes organized a Christmas link up that got my butt in gear! So here it is, before Thanksgiving even, so you have plenty of time to stitch it up before Christmas! I couldn't decide what I wanted to do for the link up project and kept changing my mind. Eventually I had a sketch book page full of various animals wearing Santa hats and various winter hats and scarves, and I knew I had my pattern. Right now you're just getting the raccoon (he's new and improved from his first ... Read More

Stitched Blooms Stitchalong

This bird motif is from Carina's book Stitched Blooms. I haven't picked up a copy yet so when I saw her blog post about a stitchalong with the chance to win a copy, I knew I needed to do it! My original plan was to make an ornament for Evie and stitch her name on it. However, now that I see it finished, I feel like maybe I should frame it or display it some way that I can be out year round instead of just at Christmas. I'm really happy with the colors and how they work together, I was a little concerned but I like it. I've always been drawn to cross stitch over ... Read More

Review – Darby Smart

I have always loved the concept of subscription boxes, getting a new surprise every month seemed like such a neat idea. I've never signed up for one before though, because there haven't been any that have really stood out to me. There are plenty of them for kid's crafts that I have considered now that Evie is older, but I recently discovered Darby Smart which is a subscription box for adult crafts. They have a series of projects that you can choose from, or you can get a monthly DIY box with a surprise project. I was sent a November TO DIY FOR box to review and I had a ... Read More
