Sashiko Embroidery

When I got the Doodle Stitching: Embroidery & Beyond: Crewel, Cross Stitch, Sashiko & More book for my birthday, I was really drawn to the sashiko embroidery. I loved the patterns and wanted to try it out, but I had no interest in transferring the pattern. I really enjoy embroidery but I really hate the prep work that comes with it, transferring patterns is my least favorite part. My mother-in-law took a trip to New York City and stopped by Purl Soho, so I asked her to pick up a sashiko kit for me. I wanted one to try out but she showed up with four and let me ... Read More

Review – Craft-a-Day

Quirk Books is a publishing company that prides themselves on giving more unique books a chance. (They have a book on crafting with cat hair!) I loved their book Pom-Poms! 25 Awesomely Fluffy Projects so I was excited to get the opportunity to review another title, Craft-a-Day: 365 Simple Handmade Projects by Sarah Goldschadt. This book features 365 different projects, each small enough that you could easily make it in a day. Each week is given a theme and there are a series of crafts in that theme. I love this because it makes this the perfect book to do with ... Read More

A Stitch a Day – January Update

It's the first of the month, so it seems the perfect time to take a look at my month of stitches for January. I started off doing both an embroidery and cross stitch version, but I had to ditch one. It was just feeling like such a chore to do both, I dreaded it. I felt if I was feeling like that in January that it was a bad sign. So the cross stitch one got put aside and I'm focusing on just the embroidery one. Are you doing a 365 project? How's it going? ... Read More

TUSAL – 2014 Edition!

Last year I took part in It's Daffycat's Totally Useless Stitchalong. (TUSAL) I missed the last update in December and never showed off my year of thread, so here it is now. I can't bring myself to throw it away, so I've been keeping it until I decide what to do with it. And now it's 2014 and I have a new ORT (old ratty threads) jar. I haven't stitched a ton this year, so it's not very exciting yet. Right now there is a lot of thread pieces from my hexagon sewing. There's something about a big jar of thread scraps that is so satisfying! You can see all the TUSAL ... Read More

WIP Wednesday – More Hexagons

Besides the hexagons I made for the felt coaster I posted yesterday, I've been busy with English paper pieced hexagons! It's officially an addiction, which is a good thing because I need a lot. My original math was 1118 hexagons for a twin blanket, but then I realized I was only calculating for the size of a twin mattress, not the size the actual blanket needed to be. The new total I need - 1880. I'm keeping a tally of all the hexagons I make, separated by color. I plan on having 8 colors - pink, red, orange, yellow, green, teal/aqua, blue, purple. I didn't have ... Read More

Try it Tuesday – Felt Hexagon Coaster

It's time for another Try it Tuesday! Try It Tuesday was started by the ladies at Trends with Benefits as a way to get crafty bloggers to try out different tutorials. This week I chose this felt hexagon tutorial from Nancy at Do Small Things with Love. I used some of the wool felt I got from Benzie Design, I got it with the intention of making these Wild Olive ornaments, but that hasn't happened yet. I have always loved stitching on felt, and this stuff from Benzie Design is amazing. I noticed she even sells felt hexagons in her shop! I also cut out hexagons ... Read More

New Patterns in the Shop!

I have two new patterns in the shop! This vintage camera cross stitch was a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law, she's in school for photography. I love the look of vintage cameras and I had a hard time choosing which one to stitch, but I love the shade of blue of the Diana. Buy the vintage camera pattern here. I've also added two new bird patterns to the collection. This one is a red winged blackbird. Buy the redwing blackbird pattern here. I made this barn swallow cross stitch for my mother-in-law for Christmas, I really loved the colors of this ... Read More
